I knew Marvin and traveled a little with hin in 67-70, with John Ballard, Glen Blakely, and others. This was his 1967-8 car. The nicest car he ever had.

Broadway Freddie indeed. This is the way Don Ewald described him under a photo of his earlier "Fugitive" dragster:

The Fugitive" AA/FD in the pits of Irwindale in 1969. This car belonged to a very colorful character from drag racing past, one "Broadway Freddy" DeName. The late Freddy was a drag racer for fun - a car thief and murderer by trade. Hailing from Brooklyn, NY he was a member of the Bonanno Crime Family. A book was written about him and it wasn't about how to make a nitro engine run. As drag racing goes, he's not one of the guys who would be a poster child for NHRA. I met him on several occasions when he was "visiting" the Left Coast. Five minutes into our first conversation (at K.S. Pittman's shop in 1967) he hikes up his pant leg and shows me a .38 revolver in an ankle holster. I was impressed as it wasn't something the rest of my friends included in their wardrobe. His point? I have no clue. But without going into anymore details or stories, scary as he was - this was a very nice digger. The Fugitive indeed. Freddy DeName was found dead in Texas, the result of POSSIBLE suicide. Allegedly he hung himself. At the time he was in the federal marshals witness protection program. He had to completely give up
his freedom in order to stay alive. The result of his ratting out on da boys! DE

  18. Here's some personal pics of my cars, both constructed by my dad in Brooklyn,NY circa 1967 and the cars he built leading up to these:

    Early AA/comp 440 wedge w/8-71 blower..built in 1964,here's the mph record run @ Cecil County in '65:

    "Blue" car,circa 1966,early 8-71 blown Hemi:

    "Gold" car,168" late 490" 8-71 blown hemi,ran 7.67 @ 198 right off the trailer on it's first run.
It is important to note that this was the ONLY car running a 8-71 blower in 1967 beside Ingenue, our Buick F/C.
