Howdy fellas~ John at Not Stock helped me get a good side shot of my car so that I could try and get some ideas that I have photo shopped on my 52 Chevy. I would like to do a 3"-3" 1/2", tops 4" chop on her. I also would like to try doing 56 Olds or 57 Chevy wheel openings? If you are feeling friendly and would like to help a poor guy that can't draw or photoshop, please give me a hand in getting these ideas where I can see them. Thank You, Sam Navarro 832-618-0447
Sam, here are two versions I did. I played around with the chop until I found proportions I liked. With those nice extended rear quarters, you'll have to be careful not to overdo the chop or it will look squashed. The first is a "simple" lowering of the lid. In the process of reducing height, the roof line gets a bit longer. The second version moves the rear roof/window section forward a few inches and takes just a bit out of the roof crown. I like this one, as the proportions are just a bit less square. I didn't have a good side view of the Olds to change the wheel wells, so I left them alone. I like them the way they are, actually. You might want to post this on the Photoshop Thread for more input.
Here's what I came up with with 57 Chevy wheel openings. Not perfect, but gives you an idea what it'll look like. What do you think?
After seeing them I think that the wheel openings might be a little too much, you did a great job though SKOT71! I want her to stay on the classy side and I think that the wheel openings might make it too wild. @ Rot'n Custom, I like the second one too, looks cleaner. I tried to post a pic up on the thread but it wouldnt let me upload it???? @ Tom, Looks killer man. What do you guys think about color? I was think pearl blue on the body with a flake blue top or Silver Body with a blue flaked top? Thanks fellas for all the help! Sam
I like 56 Chevy wheel openings on these. they are a little taller that the 57. I think the ones in the photochop are a bit big in scale compared to the real thing.
I did a wee bit more than you asked for - lowered and pulled in the front bumper, frenched the tail lights and introduced a bit more "crown" to the roof after the chop. Just couldn't resist "fiddling". Very cool car! I'm a big fan of the shoebox Chevys. -Dave
Sam, color is subjective, of course. And these cars can look good customized and painted many ways. What I would do is find the style of custom you like, build the car and then go with an appropriate paint style. You mentioned classy, which is a clue. If this were my car, I'd take my cue from the great '54 Packard lights and chrome surround you already have. That's a classy swap, and not seen too often these days. I would look at the custom styles from the 1948-54 era for inspiration. As it happens, there is a great current thread on just this era: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=540032
