I am looking to put a Holley 1850 (600 cfm) carb on my Galaxie. As I research this carb I see there are several different models. They are listed ad 1850-2, 1850-2, 1850-3 and so on. What is the difference in these models and how do I know which one to get for my car? Also, as I shop around, it seems that I can only find these in rebuilt condition. Is there a source for a new one? I really don't want a rebuilt one if I can avoid it.
The carb has been around for 50+ years, they made design changes over the years, and the dash numbers show that it's a different revision of the part. This is the latest version of it..... http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HLY-0-1850S/
The 1850's are one of the easiest carbs to rebuild.. If you have a used one laying around, we'll help ya rebuild it.. All you really need is a flathead screwdriver, a philips screwdriver, 1 inch combo wrench, a 5/8 wrench, a 3/8 and 7/16 wrench to do a regular rebuild... Got any questions?? Feel free and ask away! Hope I mentioned all the tools you need..
I rebuilt one for a small block ford roller motor and that puppy idled at 350 rpm without any shake.. 23 inches of vacuum @ 700 rpm.. I still have that carb.. It's one of my favorites.
