The doors are 2" longer, and the rear of the tub is another 4". Makes it about the same inside as a Duece Roadster. Very comfy!!

  2. Here is an interesting one that is on eBay with a few hours left on the auction.

thanks man. it feels good. after wrapping it i used polycrylic clear over it so i will smooth out over time and it will never unravel or loosen. i got the idea from a car in a mag a while ago from the 40s but i cant remember now.

  7. My son picked up the tonneau cover today from the embroidery shop in London and sent me this picture. I'm very pleased with the way the stiching turned out! The graphic is located on the right front corner of the cover and if the tonneau gets back on the roadster (which is in storage), this weekend I will add a picture or two of it, in place.
Sure looking forward to seeing the roadster again and taking it to Detroit in Feb.

  8. Well, the tonneau cover is back on the roadster, safe and sound. As it is still in the hauler, it was a little difficult to get a good picture of it, as you might imagine. Anyway, here it is.

  10. Thanks Kevin ! The roadster is in storage until the end of Feb when I will fly back to London Ont. inorder to take it to the Detroit Autorama. Jeff Norwell started a thread at http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=498323
where there is more regarding the "Ghost Rider" if you would like to see and read a bit more.

Great tribute and a really cool car.

  14. Here's a pic of the car at Brizios and a pic from back when Bo still owned it. As Mike said, much more shiny stuff plus the disc brakes, hairpins to the rear, and other details that make it look more like a tribute/clone, which is what I thought it was til finding out it was the original tarted up. In between one of the long time owners was a fella name Bob Schoonhoven (sp?) in Portland Or. Bo actually built the car in the mid '60s along with a matching color and powered (Chevy II banger) T sedan for his then wife. I boxed groceries at a Food Giant on the corner of Fallbrook and Victory, Bo's house was several blocks south on Fallbrook. He built the cars in his yard, I don't remember him having a garage at the time. Knowing the cars, it was a kick to help the Mrs. out with her groceries and load them in the sedan. The man was a wizard and sure had the eye.

  15. JimmyB put up some good shots of one of my favorites, the Flint roadster, but here's a picture of it that tells several tales.

Hey uncle bob, I don't mean to be a stickler, but I don't believe that second photo is of Bo Jones car. I do know that back in the early seventies some one built a pretty close clone of the car, and I believe that is it. Notice how the hood is louvered with a kind of weird pattern, and the wheelbase is quite a bit longer as well. As far as I know, Bo's car never had a cowl vent, and the headlight mounts are quite a bit farther forward than those on Bo's.
I'm sure not trying to call you out or anything like that, but I have been mildly obsessed with this car since I was a kid in the early seventies, and have everything in print about it ever. I am also building my third modified based on this car.
Bob Schoonhoven was (is?) far from just a gold chainer - he was a show promoter for many many years, and If I'm not mistaken, ended up as the president of the I.S.C.A. Really the only changes I see looking at the car in multiple articles starting in the October '68 Rod&Custom mag and ending with the January '83 Street Rodder, is the hair pins on the rear, a chrome grill shell and wishbones, and an aluminum dash that has since been replaced. Not enough to destroy the character of the car as Atwater Mike suggests.

    Very respectfully, Chip Quinn

  17. Chip, appreciate your points of order. I think I grabbed the wrong pic from my files, that one also had front brakes. I've changed out to three others I know for certain are Bo's. As for Schoonhoven being a chainer, I tried to make my phrasing place him before Brizio did his work, obviously that wasn't clear. I think he treated the car with historical respect. I'd have to let Mike speak for himself.

Not trying to pick nits on you, but there are quite a few details that are different besides the hair pins and extra chrome. The painted head lights, the pitman arm, the brakes as noted, the lack of pinstripes..... well, the pictures show most of it. The iconic shape is there, and most of the original DNA, but I can understand that some might feel any deviation from the original is some level of heresy, And if you're going to be obsessed with a car you've picked a good one. I may be too....:D

Thanks Uncle Bob, I was going to post some of the same pictures you did, but my scanner, new computer, brain, are not getting together this evening! Mildly obsessed would be the right term, but the cool thing about modifieds has always been that they are relatively easy to piece together from scraps and bit and pieces. But man, get one part of the formula wrong, and things can go astray quite quickly!

  21. I was going through some box's of old rod mags the other day and came across this sketch that I had saved from a previous gleaning. As I recall, it might be about 15 years ago that I clipped it. Anyway, I thought you might enjoy it and if you do know who is responsible for this neat piece artwork, maybe you would post his name.
