Here is a brief photo history of the fifth member of our family. My dad bought this coupe in 1967 for 1700 bucks and still has it to this day. For christmas this year I scanned 209 photos so he could have them on a computer. I thought you guys would like to see some, so here are 32 of them. The first few are from the previous owner. One of my favorites The Olds motor that was in it when he bought it. I know he wishes he had hung onto this one. That's my dad across the street from his apartment in Port Washington NY Running slicks on the street
Some random no name pinstriper. Wonder if this guy ever made anything of himself? Of the 209 pics I scanned in this one is without a doubt my favorite. This is right as he started tearing it down for a rebuild. This is pretty much how I knew the car my whole life. The coupe stayed parked for a lot of years while my parents funded go kart racing for me and my brother. The rat fink was busy that day.
That's awesome, it's pretty cool to see the same car go through all those transformations era, by era. What's in store for it next?
My god, what a treasure!!!! I would love to come up and see it one day perhaps with a few guys from around here if he'll have us. I would kill for a tie to something like that. Here I am trying to fab up a back story to my car but your father has one and it's true!!!! This thing is one mean mother!!!! But this is right up my ally and how I'd build it today if I had it!!!
$1700 sounds cheap now , but that was a LOT of money in 1967. i missed a chance to buy a `32 ford 5-window for $125 when i was 15. bought a running/driving one in 1984 for $4800...but i wasn't smart enough like your dad to hang on to it
I like it, great story. What happened to the shitty old original firewall that he didnt want? I would probably give him a few bucks for it.LOL.
He got a pretty good deal (MORE LIKE INCREDIBLE) as $1700 then is like 11k or 12k nowadays. GREAT HISTORY!
This is the car as it sits today, a new garage has been built and as soon as that is finished up the rebuild will start. He bought a new frame last auto fair and will start on that first. Out goes the automatic and in goes a 5spd. His getting rid of the independent rear and putting in a 9". I think the plan is to get it drving and then eventually do the body work. For now he is gonna run it with no fenders.
Killer pics and story. My dad gave up his (not built) 32 sedan delivery about the time we started 1/4 midget racing. I never put that time-line together till now.
We all wish we had kept a certain car, but he actually did. Keep that beauty in the family. Thanks, for the walk down memory lane.
That car will never leave our family. He wanted to sell it a few times and we all gave him hell about it.
The coolist part is that it is still in the family. This si a real accomplishment with all the various reasons to sell that may arise over such a extended time. I have not had my cars very long, but do regret the ones I did sell.Hopefully my son will keep them after I am gone.
