I am getting prepped for a motor swap on my 53 210 and I am in need of a rear end. I've read that the S10 is a fairly easy rear end to swap out and I believe bolts right up?

If this is true, will an S10 Blazer 4wd rear axle work?

    Much appreciated!

I don't tnink it "Bolts Right up".You may have to move the spring pads
and adjust the Pinion angle. Have one in my 57 Chevy and that what I had to do. Good luck. Tom (Tired Old Man)

Alright, then I'll just stick with my 68 Camaro 10-bolt rear end.

I was going to put an s10 rear in the 54 210 that I have been working on but it is too narrow to allow the backking plates to fit around the frame at full drop. so I went with a 72 nova 10 bolt.

Great 53sled, I'm going to pick it up tomorrow night then instead of getting that other 10 bolt that may not even fit. Plus this one has good brakes where as the other needed everything for about the same price! :)

S-10 rears are junk. Go with a Chevy 10 bolt.

s10 rears are 10 bolt. There are different versions. 7.5" 7.8" 8.5" etc. Many people push 300-350 horse motors through them in the little truck.
    Thanks for playing.

    yes, your wheels will fit.
common 4x4 ratios are 3.42 and 3.73, very few are posi.
only easy way to know is the glove box id. unless you crack it open and inspect.

The blazer and pickup S 10 rear ends are not the same width. One is narrower, can't remember which one is,but have put S10 rear ends in a 50 Chev sedan and a 53 Chev wagon a few years ago. I'm thinking if you said the blazer one you have is to narrow then get one from a pickup. The ones we used were about 53" measured backing plate to backing plate. Hope that helps.

It depends on what you are using for a motor. The one we put in the 50 Chevy had a 305 with a mild cam, edelbrock dual plain intake and 600 carb, the 53 wagon has a350, intake and 650 carb. The one in the 50 has been in there for 9 years with no problem, it is still running and was driven alot, went from Chicago to Back to the 50's in St Paul for 6 times running to to 85 mph. It will be going there again next summer the wagon has been driven for two years with no problems. Againit depends on the motor and how you drive it.

Can anyone verify if the Blazer and pickup have different width axles? Or is it just 2x4 and 4x4 are different.

just 2x4 or 4x4. blazer is a short wheel base s10 frame with a different body. just make sure some one didn't put a 2x4 rear in before you get it unbolted. about 59" wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface.
    2wd is only 54"

I have the 1988 S-10 Blazer "Guv Lock" 4X4 3:43 rear end in my 57 Chevy.
Also a build SBC 355 with a "Big" lift cam and (2) 500cfm Edelbrock carbs
and 4speed transmission. Have run this combo very hard and it will "Fry" the tires. Have never broken a thing in 5 years.I don't think its because I'm lucky !!!!!! These are good rears are cheap and can be found in most any salvage yard. The S-10 4X4 in my grandsons 38 chevy truck with a Built 355.600cfm Elderbrock carb and TH350 is from a 1999 S-10 Blazer.
It is a"Guv lock" 3:43 and will Fry slicks !!!!!! I may add that the later model S-10(1999 +) rears are Disc brakes also. To each his own. Hope this helps. TOM (Tired Old Man)

  28. most of the 4x4s in Canada have the gov loc rears with either 3:42 or 3:73 rear from my limited experience looking at parts vehicles.
I have 3:73 GovLoc in my 52. good cheap rear. Good for 300hp at least.

You didn't mention your springs. Drill a 5/8 hole in the perch to slide the axle back 1.5" if using stock springs, and grab the shock mounts and u-bolts off the s10. You can use them.

I've heard if you swap leaf springs (front to back) it will center the axle. I used the drill a hole method. much faster for me.
