Last weekend we did the tare down. We pulled the engine and trany so it could go back to the shop. They re-built the front drum and I pick it up this morning. I had my boys help me with all the wrenching. I'm going to do a little firewall touch up work while the engine is out, so I'm expecting a couple of weeks before she is restored to full power.
Ugh! I hate seeing the car torn apart. I love the work, but it is so disheartning when you have to go backwards before you can go forward. I guesss you are making a 3 point turn in the project eh! I miss ya man, we need to make some time to get the families together.
I have the trans back from the shop... it will start going back together this Sat. I'm going slow, not skipping anything. doing my best "3-point turn" Yes Rob, we need to get our peoples together. Let us know what weekend y'all are around.
Got her back in... I still need the Wires, Fuel & Break lines, fluids and such. The front end is just sitting there. I need to make an adjustment to the rear spring while it is up off the ground... I need to get glass and seats to get her on the road...
I talked to Jack (your tranny man) at the swap meet Saturday. It's a shame those "minor" set-backs are so time consuming and expensive. Let's burn some rubber off those rear tires! Daniel
Well I spent the weekend addressing the rear suspension. I had a little ore "tail-dragger" rake than I wanted. So I pulled the rearend and spring. I re-arched it 2" and put it back in... Well sort of... The spring is done, and the rear end is not back in. I tried all day, and was not able to get it in. Channeled car give up a lot of room.. eeergauH... I have one more idea, but ran out of weekend... Next weekend for sure... It was in there before, I know it fits, it's just a matter of figgering out how...
Yes sir we did! Go Hamb Go! Thanks you for your help and a fellow Hamber was right over this morning like a DR making a house call. We got the carbs adjusted and a little timing... She kicks off every turn of the key now. I got my reg in for the Invasion today!
Jay, glad to see you getting it back together again, look forward to cruisin' with you and Rob and the rest of this family, I'm going for paint in a week or so, maybe I'll be driving it "this" year
Paint takes a lot of time... I am looking forward to Fuzzy Taco's and local hang outs too. Those of us "in Progress" guys will get there soon enough...
I happen to know that there has been alot of work on this car recently. I wonder why Jay is not sharing updates with us???? Gee Jay what gives? Not gonna share your progress with the boys?
OK, OK Rob... I'll update... A little more trouble out of this one... Back in late Aug, we got her back together and running. I drove her onto and then off of a trailer to the Invasion on 9-4... (see picks) I lost forward gears in the parking lot... we had to push her back onto the trailer....
So in between the Invasion and the rest of this story, I build a set of seats. My first go at this... It was fun, but a lot of work. I laso dealt with the rear spring issue... It was 104* when I was wleding under neath the car
I had the whole car in the trans shop for inspectin... Everythng was shot. So, I pulled it out again...by myself this time...
While I had it appart, replaced the manafold gasket. There was a leak behind the distributor. I installed new 2.5 lb power valves, needles and seats... As of today, it is all back together. I'm chasing an electrical gremlin before it will start.
the electrical problem was a bad wire running from the starter relay to the starter. I replaced the wire and it started turning over. I was not getting fuel in to the carbs, so I diconected the lines at the fuel pump and hit them with some air. It fired right up as soon as the gas filled the bowls. Then I noticed oil spraying out of the dip stick. HAMB to the rescue! (again) Turns out when I fixed the leak in the intake, I stopped venting. The valve cover vents did not have a breather hole... they were plugs... a quick trip over to the drill press fixed the problem... Off to the glass guy tomorrow.
Glad you were able to get it sorted out Jay, I hate the wiring stuff, I'm fixin' to start that part myself this week, hey, who you using to do your glass?
