hey guys / girls im Elio from b.c canada, 15 and i was able to get my hand on one of these cars. i've grown up all through my life with cars and was finally time to start a project myself, so earlier this year i picked up this. it's my first time doing a build thread on this site, and really excited about it LOL! what i have here is a 1930 model A, not stock, i bougt the car somewhat done, still a project and a half and alot of work to do, picked it up at the perfect price!!!!! but yeah here's the info you want lol! specs: motor - ford 302 completely stock other than headers, anyone got any cool ideas for a 302, im against just shoving a 350 into it or a 305.. when you see the pictures you'll see i like to be different LOL! im going for more of a industrial look for the car, ideas- i have a 1969 pontiac OHC 6, or was thinking of just the 302, flatheads are pricy.. ****** - ford c4 rear end - ford 9" front end - mustang 2 - i have a 4 " drop axle sitting here but not sure if im going to be using as im running it full fendered!!!! 4 way disk brakes bucket seats rear wheels - centerline - not sure what kind - 295's front wheels - centerline - again not sure model - 225's modifications: now where to start.. uhm full boxed frame chopped 2.5" c-notched rear frame 3" new firewall floor hydraulic hood setup ( home made) all new pedal ***embly ( homemade ) rear fenders widened 3" roof has been added front " baseball " cap visor shaved door hinges home made dashboard shifter, lots more that you guys will be able to point ouT
What are you using for the steering linkage from the column to the steering rack? Looks like Two pieces of 1x1 square tubing connected with some round tubing.
I would for sure ditch the Mustang 2 suspension for sure if it were me. That rack looks awful in my opinion, just my 2 cents.
whoa, looks like a lot of correcting to do.... i love the fact that you're going for it, but if i were you i would pluck that body off the frame and get rid of the rest.
i haven't even had it out yet, first off i just wanna take it for a spin, then the body off resto comes into place, LOL! i don't knwo for being 15 i just wanna get it runnin then all the fun stuff comes!! all the welds look good, might " look " scary in pics but has been pressure tested.. and xrayed.
I did not realise he is only 16, I would do what shooter54 said you can pick up a new model a style frame for around $800-900. Do that and sell or s**** the frame under it now.
why so many toggle switches?? oh man. i just went and revisited all the pics again too, you have a dangerous piece of poor engineering on your hands. i don't care what you say about the welds, some of them are NOT safe, they look really bad... it looks like the "master craftsman" that "built" that thing realized he had ****ed it up beyond recovery and bailed out. he's probably back to building mini trucks by now. honestly, the best thing to do would be to just save the body.
LOL had them layin around, why not, it confuses people... LOL, i don't see what's wrong with the frame though... can someone explain, it's solid..
The welds look bad and the ladder bars are going to break, I would not want to be around when it gets driven for the first time or anytime. Were not trying to bust balls here just trying to help out!
Ditto. You lost me with the grille. Grilles like that come under the joke or cartoon category. And the HAMB is not really about industrial look rat rods. Sorry, but that's the way it is. And yes, I know you didn't say rat rod but... There are plenty of good builds and discussion topics on this site for you to get information from. Do a search for 'how to build a hot rod chasis.' That's got pages of good stuff to help you for a start.
lose the grill, and the suspension. i dont know if it can be saved. or if i would want to bother saving that suspension. go back to a straight axle and buggy spring. ifs,and barbed wire is NOT hot rod
Hi Elio, Good on you for picking up an A and knowing enough to find the HAMB. looks like that could be a great project. Its your car, do what you like so long as its safe. If it were me (and its not) I'd pull the body and go find an unmolested frame to put it on..then go from there. Your life will be much simpler that way. And get rid of that stupid looking visor I'm looking forward to seeing your progress. Hang in there.
I can tell you are excited to drive it, no one can blame you for that. I just hope you take some of the advice and do this right.
There's a T coupe thread going at the moment (actually a sedan, but anyway...) Thing is, the poster bought a 3/4 done pile of hillbilly engineered dangerous, clueless garbage. Partially because he knew no better. But, he's got the good sense to ask and better yet LISTEN without a chip on his shoulder. Killing people or yourself is not fun or funny. The style of the car is not really what the HAMB is about but whtever you do, it has to at least be safe. People will give good advise if they think you'll take notice.
His car was far worse than this one, the body on his is so rusted and the frame was just completly trashed.

Pretty cool, God and everyone else on here knows how I sure am partial to Model-A's. But, I would lose the Rustang II in favor of a straight axle; if you are able to afford it, that is. Fix what needs to be done right, but, I'd say your on to something. Otherwise, I'm glad to see the younger generations getting into this hobby. Kudos to you kiddo. Michelle
