Skip, This is the first time i seen this thread man. WOW! 20 pages long already and i've been keeping my mouth shut! by the way, These guys are getting down on the color combo's. did you pick a color yet???
Hey, Royalshifter - I hope you didn't sell your "T" like I did to land a Shoebox! That "Box" is a real killer - can't wait to see it done
Love it! I think I like the light blue/white myself... mellow pastels against all the stainless trim, seems to me like it doesn't want dark or harsh colors. I thought of that same chevy convertible that Bass did too- Or coral and cream... Or some medium toned metallic bronze and cream... I see that cat eye Comet too, my girlfriend wants one of those, "But with a fast engine" she said.
Boy, am I late to this thread. Have to admit I'm no good at color selection but from the looks of the car it will be killer whatever you choose. IMO if Ladyshifter is going to cruise this one her input on color would carry the day. Once again Mark, You've managed a home run.............even used my all time favorite grille. Frank
Thanks Frank.....Still moving along and a long way to go. I believe she has picked the colors for now unless it changes?
SBC ............ tragic!!! I sure didn't see that one coming, thought for sure we would see something a bit more original and appealing to the overall build in there. Just my opinion ... you already know I love the car.
Trajic you say. QUOTE=chillywilly;6049927]SBC ............ tragic!!! I sure didn't see that one coming, thought for sure we would see something a bit more original and appealing to the overall build in there. Just my opinion ... you already know I love the car.[/QUOTE]
Ignore post #410. Who gives a shit what kind of engine you put in this thing as long as you drive it? I mean if you ever show the car with the hood open you may as well not even bother chopping the car since it fucks up the lines right? Only meatheads pop their hood on a custom!!! SBC? Yeah it really fucked this car up too. I would hate to own this thing....
Have you & Ladyshifter come to terms on a color yet? Or is that going to be top secret until the reveal, too?
You really can't go wrong at this point Skipper. You've nailed everything that adding a crazy engine like a Nailhead or some other would almost be superfluous really. The color is going to be one of those things that's only going to add to the car but I doubt very highly that there is a color in your pallet that can detract from the car. I'm still sticking to the lighter colors as I think that's what's called for in this case but like I said, nothing is going to detract from this being a beautiful custom that displays an era and time where things weren't about going overboard. Ladyshifter you are in for one hell of a car!
Ignore post 410 - genius. Don't let anybody have an opinion contrary to mine - genius, Superfluous - def. unnecessary or needless. Is going above or beyond really either of those?? No, not in my eyes or the eyes of customizing forefathers. Also, Mr. James, chopping a car usually helps the lines and general flow of the car. "displays an era and time when things weren't about going overboard"... really? No one was doing anything extravagant or unusual or overboard in the mid and late 50s in the custom world... no sir. I love the car, I've told Mr. Skipper that. I happen to think that not using a SBC in the car would give it that little extra punch to push it way over the top. I'm sorry that didn't sit well with you and your views and I'm glad that you have made 2 posts after mine to right the ship and make sure everyone is one the same page and properly stroked. Please also ignore this post, thank you, Meathead
SBC's have been around for 50+ years and were being Hot Rodded from day one, if thats not traditional I dont know what is. Mark is putting a ton of time, money and effort into this car for his wife to drive and doesnt want any headaches to deal with once its finished.
Muttley agreed 100% percent... I am not in any way, shape or form saying that by using an SBC it is not traditional. You do have to agree that ANY motor can be made reliable for anyone to drive.
Sure, but you are going to spend a whole lot more building a Nailhead, Hemi or Flathead than you would a SBC and in this case it would be a big waste of time/money. Its a Custom, you wont ever see the engine in the first place.
Put an LS1 in it!! It's a custom, so don't open the hood. Kind of like the military's 'don't ask, don't tell' policy.
