Your definetly going to have to get some modern pics of the Yankee Comet. Would love to see a color shot of it. When I first saw the pic it made me think of Evil Kenevil ( Huge fan when I was A kid) I bet that paint scheme is bad ass in person.

If things continue the way they are right now I doubt it.

I would not mind another 1,000 rpm's out of it. But hey, I cannot complain. Its quite alot of fun, out on the street, and seems very driveable, so I think this will be a great compromise. I now love those twin little stripes the rear tires leave, with the Chrysler springs. About two feet long, and the cars just plants and goes. I am actually surprised the car does not entirely just blow the tires away. The Firestone DOT slicks are showing great wear for the burnouts I've been doing, and the very small amounts of rubber smoke at the track tell me the compound is on the hard side.

I'll be there next Thursday evening, weather permitting. Let me know if you are going, we'll do a side by side or two!!

Dale;that sounds good to me! I'll get a hold of my clutch guy and see what his schedule is.He wants to try some less base and add some counter weight. It looks like that area will be below freezing the next few days!!! ROY.

DSO 525628...special order through Pflueger Lincoln Mercury. The 1964 B/FX Cyclone that the Hampsmires of Illinois have that was also ordered through Pflueger has the same exact DSO.The consectutive unit numbers in the VIN are two digits apart and both cars share the same build date. The B/FX Cyclone was driven by Bill Shrewsberry for a short time at Hawaii Raceway Park (owned by Pflueger) and then Pfluegers driver Earl "Safari" Char took over. The Vintage Burgundy Cyclone is the sister car to the B/FX Cyclone. When I found the B/FX Cyclone it was yellow and called Dominator I.Previous to that it was blue and called MR 289.When Pflueger ordered it,it was white. Both Cyclones have the hi-po package:289/271,RC Industries 1965 NHRA approved bellhousing,Borg Warner T10B,9-inch rear with 4.71 gears and HD suspension and brakes. The Vintage Burgundy car also came equipped with the transistorized ignition.

That's right. There were no regular production, factory built K code Hi-Pos built for US retail sales. A B/FX car would not have been regular production, it would have been converted after production.

Much like Ford didn't build a 64 427 Fairlane in regular production. They had DST convert some 289 Hi-Po optioned cars to lightweight 427 drag cars.

Many people get confused by the K serial number 64 Comets. The K was not a Hi-Po package on 64 Comets. I'm sure there were a few dealers and owners that added the Hi-Po package to the 64 Comets via over the counter parts though.

Exactly right...as far as I know most if not all 64 B/FX Comets were prepped by Bill Stroppe. The burgundy Cyclone ran at Hawaii Raceway Park in C/Stock and B/FX.I guess they couldn't figure out what class to put it in.

Thanks! I will take that as a compliment...those are my dads Comets at a local cruise spot near Milwaukee, the last two pictures are in my drive way before we went out to play. My dad has had lots of Comets over the years as I grew up so I love them. My first car was a 64 Cyclone, wish I kept it.

I have to say the red steelies on the '64 make my day!!!

The weathers holding out here in SoCal, after a beautiful morning. After taking pops for a "spirited" ride last night in the Rocket (dang, those headlights sure don't do any good pointed up in the heavens!) I"m going to put it on the freeway later this afternoon, and go meet friend and fellow altered wheelbase pilot Steve Magnante at our favorite hole in the wall pizza joint. He's out here for a turnaround photo shoot, and our little band of motorsport brothers does not get around much these days. The camera bag 'll be packed, now if I can just get someone to not crash into the side of me while we are on the freeway, those gawkers!!!:D

Ryan;I have that issue of Super Ford. The red 65 B/FX Comet is great.Do you know where it went?I wish Crites would make that one piece bumper-splash apron!!Every 65 B/FX I've seen was red,I wonder if they all were. ROY.

Just got in from the dinner/freeway 'fest!!! Mike grabbed pics while I was driving the Comet on the freeway!! Yikes!!! Freaking people !!! I knew they were taking pics when everyone just backed off of me while I was driving around 60 or so. 3,300 rpms, and it purred along. Well, not really purring, more like loudly screaming. Mike'll download the shots and we'll see what it all looked like from the ass-end!! Don't get to see Steve Magnante too much these days, 'cause he does not frequent the West Coast as much, but when he does, its a BEE-LINE for Petrillos Pizza !!!!

Nothing like a 91-octane friendly 11-1 small block. Yea, I know, it'll never run 9's, but who gives a hoot these days!! Just being able to blow peoples minds on the street is fun enough!

  24. There used to be a white '64 with a FE motor in it that used to show up at P-Town... it was tubbed with slot mags... and was one of the most bitchen Comets I'd ever seen... then the guy went and put some ugly retro wheels on it.

Thanks! Just came back in, after wife said she smelled something funny from the garage. Looks like I need to adapt a set of offenhauser style breathers, or something similar. The oil caps on the current covers are blowing oil out, and onto the headers a bit. Only happened a bit before, but maybe the extended high rpm run on the freeway allowed the car to show another small glitch. Thats what its all about !
Roy- you going next Thursday? I'll clear the schedule. Hell, I might just forget the trailer all together, and drive it to the track !!:)

Was the red 64 originally a Cyclone? It should have the rear roof pillar trim piece and yours doesn't.All 64 Cyclones have the trim piece.I just happened to notice the Cyclone badge on the front fender.
