Hm= I think I'd do the trade for the T Bird, but only by a slight margin. You win either way on that one. The '65 (not Fairlane)? - no chance.
Tell us about you. Do you do your own work? Can you kustomize? Do you put lots of miles on? What kind of shows, all of em or only "our" type? Do you buy and sell? Do you still have your 1st dollar? Does your mate drive your old cars? Are you "moving up" to something? All of this will effect the best choice. I can see the Lincoln at a local cruise night gathering some attn. I can also see the 'Bird having a loyal following. The comments like "...you always see Tbirds..." is for good reason. You know, you very seldom see 60s GTO sedans with 3spd manual transmissions. I wonder why?
Yeah the guy said it was a 65 fairlane but i also was like... ok? I had a 65 galaxie that was that body style but if it were a fairlane itd have to be a 66 right? I thought maybe it was at the end of 65 or somethin... I try to do most of my own work to my Lincoln but im a novice... I am about to try and go back school to learn all i can about workin on cars... Theres a good one nearby... and i attend whatever shows are local but mostly pistons and paint and lonestar roundup...
You asked for opinions you got them! haha. That's a tough question. What it would boil down to me is, which car would YOU drive the shit out of NOW. If your Lincoln is so tired and it needs a 5K rebuild and you dont have it but you can get in and go with the bird its a no brainer...but again it boils down to What car will allow you or your missis enjoy right now????
That's not ANY year of Fairlane. It's a full-size, where the Fairlane is an intermediate. It's a lower end big car, probably called a Custom 300, or something like that. And it's pretty darned cool, too- just not as cool as the T Bird or Lincoln.
they did have fairlanes that body style starting in 66... look it up and it could be a Galaxie cause i had one that looked identical! Heres my old Galaxie....
Most deffinetelly keep that bad ass Lincoln! fbama73 is correct I do believe that is a 66 Ford Custom 300. Probobly a 289 or it could even be a straight 6 car. There is a guy in my area who was trying to sell his custom 300 in very solid shape, comperable to the one you showed and he only wanted $800 beans. I traded my 67 Galaxie/LTD 2dr, for a 1950 Buick super 4dr and couldn't be happier! Good Luck with whatever you decide. Chuck
Yeah i like the black ford but most likely will not trade for it... but the bird is a different story... They said it runs like a top! My Lincoln on the other hand has a bad oil leak and a radiator leak... needs front end work pretty bad and new tires too and needs lots of little things... The bird has a few rust spots and thats it from what i can tell... worst spot being on the front of the hood near the emblem thats rusted straight through...
well im in the keep the lincoln. never liked that body t-bird myself. the lincoln is cooler and you dont see many.
hi ray here , Personally i prefer the lincoln its a looker and solidly built. that t bird looks like it could have issues. a multitude of sins can hide under chrome trim.
I say option "C", find your old Galaxie and trade the Lincoln for it! Always liked the idea of a "stock car for the street" 65 Gal, and yours was already 75% there!
I'd trade the T-bird for that (which I think is a 65 Galaxie, though I could be mistaken) but I don't know about the Lincoln - that's an awfully cool car. It would be a tougher decision for sure. And, while I can understand why you might want to trade if you're having issues with the Lincoln, don't get yourself into something worse (rustier) just because it runs better (right now - that can always change). I'm pretty sure it would be easier, in the long run, to fix an oil leak than a bunch of rust. Honestly... if you can't fix an oil leak, radiator leak, and change the tires on the Lincoln... what are you going to do when things start going wrong on the T-bird? Start looking to trade again? Just something to think about.
Four doors aren't for girls. They're for anyone who wants to be able to get people in and our of the back seat without climbing over each other. Two-doors may be cooler, but there's a good reason there are more four door cars than there are two door cars - if you need to move more than two people at the same time, on a regular basis, a two-door is a pain in the ass.
Actually i believe the 61's came stock with around 300 hp and went up a little the following years but i dont think it got to 375...
