Hey Guys and Gals.Anyone know if there is a certain brand of Tunnel ram that can be used with an HEI on a SBC ? Ok Ok I know HeI HeI " Gag me with a spoon" !!!! LOL
Can't answer that for ya I think I've seen a tunnel ram with an HEI before but I would have to go back into my brain and dig. Anyway here's a bump for ya.
Pork, I did a big search on this site and all I could come up with is "Tunnel Rams and HEI's" don't work together" or words to that effect. As long as Tunnel Rams and HEI's have been around it seems to me that some big outfit would have come up with something or some Hot rodder that's a lot smarter than me, tried and came up wth something that would work !!!!!
Try Ebay, I recently saw a Small cap HEI distributor, Im pretty sure it will work with tunnels as Im going with this set up myself.
I have a tunnel ram for a small block Ford and I'd like to use a Dura-Spark on it also... Being that the motor is '91 roller block, I'd like to use a roller cam with it...
No offense, but I think you asked your question backwards. I think it should have read what brand of HEI works with a tunnel ram. And the answer would be - Chevy of course! ;-) The old TI distributor that chevy made for the corvette was the predecessor to the later big cap HEI except that the TI distributor looks identical to the small cap points distributor and as a bonus had a mechanical tach drive. They aren't dirt cheap, but they do show up reasonable every so often at the swap meets. They generally bring stupid money on Ebay by the restorers. I've used them on hot rods with great sucess.
buy one of the new Magneto-look HEI distributors. Gives you the 'this is a serious engine' look - as does your tunnel ram. It's HEI all the way, and small enough in diameter to solve your problem. I ran one with a dual quad setup and it was just as sweet as could be - performance and appearance. Big time WOW factor with a mag stuck in there. dj
