yeah, i always see a few people crowded around their booth at the swap meets, so i guess they're still getting business.

Bumper Shop and Bumper Boys have a business practice of taking your core and returning any old bumper that they re-chrome.

But they have their beautiful ones on display at the swaps...

Desert Dog sent me a bumper they rechromed that still had three waves from slight depressions that they didn't fully press out. But, I cannot complain since their deal was for straightening and re-chroming "any condition" bumper for the same price and I sent them a core that was worse. Overall, I was OK with the deal-- but because of the waves in the bumper, I cannot recommend Desert Dog for show-quality work.

BTW, for the guys complaining that their re-chromed bumpers don't line up with the gaps on the car perfectly... the ONLY way you will get perfect gaps is to take the whole entire car to the bumper shop to have them fit it. When straightening a bumper and pressing out dents, it can easily alter the total shape of the bumper-- imperceptible, but you'll see it in the gaps once you mount it. Concours-quality work is tedius, and the only way to do it is to fit the bumper before chroming. Make sure it is perfect-perfect, then pull off and chrome.

They did a rear bumper for me that looks OK, the front bumper when I put it on the car the center was depressed almost an inch. It looked good till I put it on then you could see the twist. Since I had just exchanged my good core for this one a few hours earlier (took that long to get home) I told them I wanted my core rechromed ASAP and they had it for me a week later so I could use it on vacation. When I got down to the shop with the bent one, one of the bosses could see the bend in it as I was taking it out of the truck. He threw in a set of bolts for my trouble. I've had them 3 years and they look good, so I can't complain too bad.

There's a gut on the Pontiac board (cl***icalpontiac.com)who sings a song about them, I think it goes like this...
"BUMPERS BOYZ NO NO NO, NO BUMPER BOYS NO NO NO!"

I bought some '56 Chevy bumper ends from them that started peeling and flaking within a month, they ****. I think all their stuff's plated in Mexico using recycled Red Bull cans.
Floridians, take note, Spacecoast Plating rule. FBS were really good too, not show quality, more like OEM plating but their stuff lasted....too bad they're closed down now.

Heard all sorts of horror stories about Bumper Boyz, and some good ones too.
Buy off them by all means or do an exchange where you get their bumper first then return a core.
DO NOT SEND CORES FIRST !!
    They loose them regularly.
I am going to look at a bunch of bumpers today.
I'll look see if a good one is there for you.
Will drop a notice on board with results of what I can get tonight.

For the question of FLA platers, I got excellent results from Pot Metal Restorations in Tallah***ee.

If I wanted to be charitable I'd say that if you were desperate you -might- come up with a decent "driver" bumper out of them, or if you were totally missing the "chrome thing" that goes on your car.....short of that the stuff looks like a blind man straightened them with a ball pein hammer....

Avoid. Bought bumper last Carlisle Spring, stored in the garage and finally brought it out to install and the chrome is flaking off of the bumper. You might also notice that at this time they no longer have their WEB site (bumperboyz.com). Gee, wonder why?

Dang, I have seen them at some swap meets/car shows and thought they were decent...

But then again I never dealt with them, or knew anyone who has. And from the replies, I never will either...Learn something new everyday...

I'm not sure where all these old threads were buried, but for some reason they keep coming back to haunt us.

They had guys at Moultrie Ga this past weekend. I walked by them and they had 3 guys standing around crabbing about their stuff. A friend of mine tried to buy a front for his 67 Ranchero. They got all grumpy when we wanted to see it before he bought it. When we unwrapped it, I almost got sea sick from all of the waves in it. My advice is to use someone local and ask around and look at their work.

If you go to B-Boyz at a show and can look at what they have on the truck you might find a good one, carry it off yourself... Don't let them ship one. I've heard lots of bad stories that they are hit or miss & usually miss.

My bumper boyz, experience: I wanted 54 chevy bumper ends. I asked how much, they said $X. I said cool i'll take them. They said oh but I don't have the other one here. They said meet me in Pleaston Car Show (which is a hour and a half from my house) in two weeks and i'll have it for ya. I go there, pay for parking and entry for the sole purpose of picking these up. I ask them for the other one ... "oh I left it in LA but i'll have it at the next show". I thanked them for wasting my f#$%ing time and got back in my car.

I just called them to see how much for 1 piece bumpers for 49 - 52 chevy and the guy said 580$ each! ****ing offensive IMO! 300$ to 375$ anywhere else.
