I know its not Hamb friendly but sure is a nice 34. I hate seeing anybodys pride and joy stolen. Seams like alot of HOT RODS are being taken now days.Makes me parnoid of mine since I am getting close to finishing. Will be lookin at the next swap meets. http://auto.ocregister.com/2011/01/03/mans-prized-1934-ford-3-window-coupe-and-trailer-stolen/48798/
This was not in Texas - It was in Garden Grove CA. Maybe change your title to help folks look for it.
Muscle cars as well. Cars are being stolen left and right on each site I visit. My theory on some of these cars. Owner of cars paid too much for a car in BJ style run up in the 2005/2006 days, car is now underwater as prices dropped and combined with slow economy or lost job + agreed value coverage of 2005 prices= oops forgot key in the ignition/friend hauls it away on flatbed to dump in local lake insurance fraud. I'm not implicating any cars or owners on this site past or present but when I see ton's of cars all of a sudden getting stolen and all the rampant corporate greed going on.....
That could be the case with some of the super cars that are being stolen SS but I don't think it is the case with a lot of the high profile rods that we see being stolen. The 32 Roadster that was stolen and recovered in Oregon a couple of weeks ago was obviously taken because it was in the trailer that was the original target of the thief or thieves. Think about how many white car hauler size trailers you see rolling up and down the road every day of the week. They are easy to sell or just swap plates from another trailer and roll down the road hauling what ever. Some of the high profile cars stolen lately make it appear that there is a theft ring specializing in such cars to ship out of the country. Someone with lots of spendable money and few or no scruples sees the car in a magazine or on the net and places an order. They can't show the car or have photos of it show up but in those cases possession is probably enough to keep them satisfied until they spot another one to add to the collection. Or some are stolen by or for shops that use the stolen car as a way to turn out a top rate car for a customer without putting the work into it that the customer's original car requires. One way or another I think that is what happened to Chris Casney's wife's Tbird. Shop with no scruples steals the car, swaps serial numbers and obvious items, refinishes it and out the door it rolls as a fully restored pristine car.
This theory seems a bit far fetched, kinda like Elvis is alive and operates a Dry cleaners in Kalamazoo
Remember the big ordeal with the Mustang shop in Dallas that was making those Eleanor cars!! Sounds about the same!
Just once,I'd like to read a post where a car's owner caught some scumbag in the act, shot him dead, and didn't get charged with anything..I hate thieves
As my wise old grandpa used to say sounds like the meetin of 2 fools one for offerin the other for not exceptin. Am I the only one to notice that as the economy has tightened up alot of these supposedly big money over done never to get your money back cars end up stolen? Just a coisidence.......Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
That combined with insurance carriers like Haggerty, Grundy etc that just write out a check for a agreed face amount set up when the car was first insured. Not that I'm saying that is bad thing..insurance carriers just writing out a check without any hassles but combined with a underwater car(as in paid $250k for it and it's now worth 150k as in the muscle cars) and today's greed and a lost job = higher premiums for the honest folks. I can see Haggerty etc changing these high agreed upon amounts to reflect current market values.
And the number of garage fires as of late. Heck, Mopar Collectors Guide practically has a monthly column on some guys car collection going up in flames.....
They don't just hand out the checks.. The process is just short of the 3rd degree with an anal probe on the side.
sorry i feel real bad for the guy ,and i hate theives . with that said .......in a trailer in the frt yard? lets not make it so easy .................should have spent some of that 250k on a garage
Yeah amazing how that happens. Similar situation happened locally..keys left in the ignition of a very well known car. Which btw was for sale for over a year. Hmmm!
Some years back, we had a rash of 'abandoned vehicles' in the San Francisco bay area. I had a shop in San Jose, and the TV news was alive with not only the abandoned & stripped, but stolen cars as well. They hammered home the fact that there are "Secret Numbers on all vehicles, and only the police know where these numbers are." (duh... Now we will never have another problem identifying stolen cars? Are the police that knew where these numbers were all retired now, or was it a ploy of the News Media that used to lie?)
the problem isn't that it was in a trailer outside,or that it was in a driveway, or whereever it was....the freakin' problem is THAT SOMEONE THINKS THEY CAN HAVE SOMEONE ELSES PROPERTY!! We got a real situation guys and like I've said before, none of us will be able to afford the insurance on our rides if we don't get a handle on this...They even caught the bastard in Oregon driving the 32 roadster and we still don't know who, what, when, where, or WHY....The fella is still missing his storage trailer and his Mullins trailer...WTF...No real penalty and the crimes will continue.
Had a lot of 100 point show cars over the years in the 32-33-34 styles but never ever seen one go for 350,00 or 250,00 but feel for the guy that lost it. I know if I had one of the 350,000 rides it would have a deterent installed so it could be found. I dont have any thing over 50,000 but I am protected and advise every one with old cars to do the same especially during these hard times and going to be harder.
I've met the guy at a couple of local shows. It's a nicely turned out car for the style, which isn't my style but so what. It doesn't really matter what he thinks it's worth, or what someone else did or didn't offer for it. The truth is, it was his pride and joy, that he built, and it was stolen. From what he said, he put around $75,000 in this car and if he thinks it's worth more, so what? I really don't think it was an inside job, or that he is committing fraud, and it really pisses me off that a bunch of jack offs on here are passing judgment on someone they have never met and have no facts about what happened. If your car was stolen, how would you feel if the HAMB community accused you of setting it up? No one accused Chris of having his T Bird stolen even though it was a similar deal of it being in his driveway just because he's a member here, so why are you accusing Bob? (I am not suggesting in any way that Chris had anything to do with his cars disappearance, just using it for an example)
my car aint worth 20k but ya still gotta get in my gate, past 2 dogs, move 3 cars then get in my garage .....................like i said i hate thieves and i feel for the guy ...but a trailer in the frt yard ????? im just sayin make it a little harder there are thieves out there no matter what you do...
I read about it on YAHOO.com and couldn't believe he was saying it was worth $250k!!! Then says he turned down $350K in 2007,WTF!!!!!! Even if the motor was worth 100k and it was Henry steel,it STILL wouldn't be worth $250k! It's too bad it was stolen and I feel bad for the guy,but...what's he smokin? It was just at John Forces show a couple weeks ago. It should have been in the garage....NOT in a trailer in front of his house....
