By chance do you know who owned this car? I see it was @ FREMONT (Cal).... and its an AHRA class car. Larry
Thanks for the info. I still need a lower hose and a try a Napa store instead. Advance Auto Parts had no clue, and All Star didn't have the right size for my lower hose.

Just to let you "OLD FARTS" and younger farts know who are interested in the OLD stockers I recieved my old NHRA/IHRA engine spec book that includes spring pressures, camshaft duration and overlap specs, etc. back from my IHRA tech friend who I had loaned it to awhile back. If anyone wants the spec's for an old combo I should have it listed. I just checked and Olds goes back to 1949. Some brands are newer.
"Takes one to know one..." and I think I resemble that remark! X-TECH, this is a lil bit "obscure" perhaps but from your experience (and possible enlightenment from old NHRA "application" idices), were there any "Canadian Pontiac" combos, '58-'69, that would have made Canadian versions of "Chev"-powered Acadians (Nova clones), Beaumonts (Malibu clones), or Full Size (Strato Chief-Laurentian-Parisienne-Grand Parisienne) better Class racers (weight break-wise) than their comparable Chev sisters? I do NOT recall any "serious" Canadian versions conquerring @ National events... Anyone else aware of any?
Sorry but the old books that I had didnt have any of our "Canadian Brothers" cars listed in the guide. Some were allowed to run locally at some tracks back in the day but I dont have any info on who it was or which combo they used. The engine specs used were for the same year/HP that the American combos used. Im not sure if any were run at an NHRA points race or National event. I personally started to go to the drag strips in Md. and Va. in 1961.
Thanks, guys! (For those who are interested, or "forgiving" of this sidetrack, Canadian Pontiacs [except Firebirds] of this era were offered on corresponding Chev chassis with Chev drivelines: 283-327-348-350-396-409-427. VERY rare combos, built in very limited numbers...) Colesy? Do you recall any serious Canuck-only Pontiacs?
Re: the pic of the Bob Glidden B/S. A friend of mine, Fred Robinson (he's on "the list" with a '51 Studebaker) bought that car from Glidden, campaigned it for a while, and sold it. He was sick a little later when he saw it advertised for $125 thou. It was a documented Glidden car, but he didn't get much for it when he sold it. Re: the Canadian stockers. Didn't the old stock rules state that stock class was for "American Manufactured" cars? Kind of a silly rule, since they sanctioned Canadian tracks, and held national events there. John
In the 70s I asked the Div 1 tech director (Greg X ) about running a 65 Beaumont on Stock and was told "no" because GM had not listed specs for it (in the NHRA Guide). Canadian tracks just used the Chevy specs for them at a local level.
I remember Canadian Pontiacs competing locally only. Nothing on a National level. Not sure how they dealt with the cars at Niagara or Detroit Dragways but I remember hearing stories of guys being rejected at U.S. tracks because the cars weren't in the spec book. As for the 427 Pontiacs (66-69), there were no shortage in my neck of the woods. I recall 2 1967 Safari wagons with the 427/385 combo in my neighborhood alone and many 396/325 Beaumonts. No large blocks in the Acadians though.
When you opened the hood on a mid 60's full size Canadian Pontiac.....like maybe a Pariesenne......and saw a little dinky looking small block chevy with no power accessories or ac.....it looked silly under there as the engine bay was big enough for 2 small blocks!
Speaking of Canadian cars, you should try getting a 1966 Chevelle "Malibu SS" with a 283 4 speed through tech in stock eliminator.
Bob, what does this mean... Please expound your thought. I had a buddy who ran that combination very successfully (M/Stick) for years in Div 5 & Div 6 without any problems. Thanks! Larry
In the USA a 66 Chevele SS was a big Block car. http://www.chevellestuff.net/1966/66ss.htm In Canada they still had a Malibu SS in 1966 and early 67. 65 was the last year of the Malibu SS in the USA so my car didn't show up in the books. http://www.chevellestuff.com/misc/cdn_chevelle_facts.htm Maybe your buddy had a Malibu or a Chevelle model ?
Ran into Dean (In-Bomber) on another thread. He has an early Ford that ran M/P back in the day. I did a search on Modified Production. I was unaware of it, but Colesy has another thread on this topic. For anyone interested; especially nocluejoe, here's the link for more information, pictures, and ideas. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=348502&highlight=modified+production
Nope.... it was a '66 - Malibu SS - flat Malibu style hood - bucket seats with console - 4Jet 220hp / 283 - 4speed I have heard of your info before, but never saw it adhered to. Thank You Bob! Larry **I just checked current nhra class guide and sure enough this 283 SS model / combo does not exist.... I'm not sure how my friend's car was accepted (back in the mid 70's)?
