The guy above who is "Joking" is just like any other Blow Hard brand X owner. Likes to mouth off but never has anything to back up his mouthing. The only laughing we hear are folks laughing at you.

I built my 455 and turbocharged it. 2 bolt studded bottom, cast crank, aluminum rods and cheap ass TRWpistons. 6X cast iron SMOG heads home ported by me, supervised by Dan Whitemore. Single 77mm turbo and turbo friendly 248/248 .522/.533 solid flat tappet. Chassis dynoed at 886.8 Hp @ 5563 rpm/822.3 ft lbs torque @ 5434 rpm. With 20% loss for an automatic drivetrain that's 1065.16 hp and 986.7 torque at the flywheel. This was at 15 psi. I don't think thats anything to sneeze at??? 12 psi it still made 789.7 hp/827.9 torque at the wheels and 947.6 hp and 993.48 torque at the flywheel. Pic of car on the trailer before selling it. Pic of the engine compartment. And hopefully it will play, a vid of it running.

Pontiacs can be made to run as well or better than others. Now there is so much out there for the Pontiacs and the price difference is getting narrower. The aftermarket has really stepped up in a big way. Mark L

People put Chev. motors in Pontics as they can be built ceeper. A friend has always had Pontiacs in his 40 Ford and could drive to the track and turn mid 10's and drive home. His wife would drive it in a car pool to work.

Thanks guys. I sold it last year and it is now in Delaware. So I'm building a street freak.

I'm building a turbocharged '60 block 389 punched .090 to 406 and splayed 4 bolt caps. All forged internals. Ohio Crankshafts 3.75 crank, GRP aluminum 6.625 rods, Ross dished lightweight pistons. Aluminum KRE 325 cfm heads, Edelbrock Victor, CSU blow thru 750 carb and a turbo friendly cam. Not sure on the final specs yet. I wanted a higher purpose built short block so I can use the revs if I need them. The 455 made its power in the 5500 range. I think the 406 will go higher to make more. Pontiacs can make big power with the available aftermarket support that we've gotten now. Something Chevy always had. We're behind but catching up fast. Mark L

I'm going to build a 4L80 manual valve body/trans brake overdriver. My son works at Hughes Performance Transmissions here in Phoenix so I'm going to be able to build with in my budget. With the turbo you don't want big gears so I'll using 3:50s in a 9 inch for now. I'm buiding the narrowed frame right now to get those meats under the rea wheel wells. I just hope I can get the U-Tube vid level. Lots to do, starts looking daunting after a while. Mark L

I don't unstand why you and everyone else use a ford 9 i n. The Pontiac rear end that was in that car is a lot stronger and it's a pontiac, not a damn Ford. Put a 57 housing under it. Now you can get any gear and all parts you want for tha 57-64 housing. I don't mean to make anyone mad but COME ON the 9.3 Pontiac was one of the best rears of all time, and takes less power to turn too.

  13. I wish to invite all Pontiac fans here on the Hamb to Pontiac Heaven in Phoenix. Held this year March 31-April 3, it is the coolest Pontiac gathering in the west. We normally have wonderful weather that time of year. There will be drag racing Fri and Sat Nights and Sat and Sunday day. More track time than any other Pontiac event. Plus a 2 day swap meet, a full day of special guest speaker presentations. I will be doing one on the Mickey Thompson HEMI Pontiac and have at least one of my own on display and fire up. Plus great music, food activities, parade lap, cruise in car shows, show and shine, main car shows, junkyard tours, museum tour and more. Last years Pontiac Heaven coverage is in the current issue of Smoke Signals and was also featued in High Performance Pontiac magazine a few issues back.
If this isn't enough, the Sunday portion is the "Nostalgic Show & GO!" and welcomes all brands of vintage years for a day of showing parts swapping and racing. There will be an A/FX class, 8 second street cars including Robin Roberts killer 8.13ET Pontiac street car!
Please tell your Pontiac friends. People attend from all over North America.

I'll have many personal things to display including the '68 firebrid funny car body originally owned by Jess Tyree ( still has its 1969 paint ), '66 GTO mileage project with '80 265 and 700r4, my '60 389 powered front motor TOP Fueler, M/T HEMI powered '72 Hondo flatbottom, blown altered wheel base '65 Tempest project and more.
    Thank you.

  14. Man. I'd love to attend this event as I believe it is the best Pontiac gathering from what I see on the internet every year!! Unfortunately I am always busy and always strapped for cash.
If I have extra cash. it burns a hole in my pocket like buying that 1966 Tri-power at the Portland swap meet. Is it cool? Damn rights, did I need it? hell no, I have at least 15 intakes already including dual quads, another Tri power, and a bunch of single and dual plane manifolds. I guess Im a Pontiac hoarder. I also have a 900 sf shop with a ton of Pontiac stuff.
If I could only save for this event!!

Need to hook up with the convoy that comes down from the Wash. state/Canada area each year. There is usually 4-6 from your area that treck down to Phoenix for Pontiac Heaven.

  18. The one and only Pontiac event that focues on REAL Pontiac V8 power will be held again ( 14th year ), Friday March 30-1, 2012. To top it off is the Nostalgic Show & GO! on Sunday for all vintage stuff 1981 and older. The more you are a fan of the Pontiac V8, the more you will like Pontiac Heaven. No corporate nonsense!
This year will include special speakers/tech sessions including- Robin Roberts he will be discussing his low 8 second street car, Brad Duerst of Fabcraft maker of stick shift and rear end parts, AllPontiac.com makers of IAII blocks and Tiger heads, etc. And Jim Wangers, he was the US Natiionals stock class winner in 1960, he will be presenting a new feature on the glory days of Royal Pontiac. Plus swap meets, vendors, drags, show and much more.

Will have my blown 389 powered nitro car there too.

I can understand why a MOPAR guy would ask this question.

After winning three poles, Roberts continued the Fireball/Smokey strategy: lead from the start, run balls out, and hope it lives. It did in ’62, beating Richard Petty’s Plymouth

  22. To answer the original question in the title of this thread... For the same reason all engines suck; the downward movement of the piston with the intake valve open.:D

A friend has a very nice GTO convert. 68 or 69, 400/turbo 400 a bit gear bound for hwy. driving, 4.56s and drag radials. Lost an eighth mile dragrace to an LS-1 Camaro by about a car length. Back at the pits we discovered he had a plug wire off. THAT SUCKS! Next pass he showed the Camaro what the ass end of a Goat looks like. While i'm LMAO.
