  1. Well what do you know, I found another pic of the car that I hadn't seen before.

    normal_DSCN0620.jpg

Look like it's in the Elko, Nevada area, or at least it was a couple o' three years ago. Here's a link to the article that I think I saw from a year or so ago. Only one picture but a little more of the story of how the car ended up where it did.

I did some work on a couple of James' cars in 2004. He does work on cars. At that time he had a small warehouse in an industrial building in san rafael where he stored cars and stuff, and he had a small section with a lift, welders, and metal working tools. And he was customizing an old buick I think ('57 ?). But the real nice work you see is more of a product of rick dore.
Here are some pictures of his skylark right after he bought it. ($25k ebay purchase IIRC).
At this point he wasnt sure what he really wanted to do with it, so the air ride system I put on it was very simple, as in minimal cutting of the car.

WTG Don for setting the story straight on this car . It's always been one of my favorites , with some incredibly subtle metalwork from Davis and Covell.

I asked Art about this car several years ago , and although I can't repeat what he said , I'll just say that George Barris is probably NOT on the Christmas card list !!

  8. this is sick, got any more pics of this beauty ?

  9. HAHA George has done alot of great things for the kustom car movement but this is definitley not one of them but I guess when you are in business to make money the customer is always right.

  10. & what's funny is that if George hadn't of Kustomized it, the Chrisman coupe could quite possibly of been cut up and scrapped as it was obsolete by the late 50s early 60s. Just be thankful it has been returned to its true self.

  19. I'm certainly no celebrity but I have autographed many cars that I striped owned buy celebs, ballers, politicians and other notables. That Johnny Depp Merc...If it's the same one, I did a display sign for it at the Austin Autorama sometime back in the 90's. He called it the "Roach Motel"

  20. I had to add this one. The Bullitt Mustang. This post may get deleted because I'm not sure if Steve McQueen owned it or not. I do know his son Chad has one.

These two cars, the Sonny and Cher Mustangs that Barrid built, now reside at the Allen Unique Autos Museum in Grand Junction Colorado. Visited there today and was amazed at the 'things" on the hood. Looked like a couple baking pans with white painted expanded metal pop riveted in them? These can't be something Barris would have approved of?

  25. Thought this was somewhat appropriate, with Bonneville Speedweek and all. Did a search and looked through 10 pages before posting these pics. Got a song on my i-pod, about Webb's Bullhorn Pontiac. Just dawned on me that it was about Webb Pierce and his 1962 Bonneville, complete with "Nudie" interior. A reliable source told me, he needed money in the 70's and replaced all the silver dollars with aluminum. Supposedly resides in the Country Music Hall of fame now. YEE HAW:D

    Quote from Flicker webpage:
At the Country Music Museum and Hall of Fame, Nashville, TN.
Honky-tonk singer Webb Pierce paid $20,000 to have this 1962 Pontiac Bonneville customized by Nudie. Among its many outlandish features are horseshoes on the gas and brake pedals, silver ornamental handguns on the door handles and elsewhere. The original custom job included more than one thousand silver dollars inlaid in the upholstery. In 1978, Pierce replaced most of the silver pieces with alloy coins

  26. I was in Tupelo last year working on one of the museum car and I saw Jane Spain museum with a lot of nice cars.

  27. Always wondered what happened to those two cars. I built the model when I was about 10 and won the model car contest that was held in conjunction with the "New" 7-11 opening in town - which was a BIG DEAL in 1966!
