  2. Dale, I think that is great that you drive and race your comet. To many guys hide their cars away. I can't wait for the spring so I can drive my comet again.
To all the guys posting pics and info on comets, keep up the great work.

  3. I was going to stop and look at this comet today but it is snowing. Have to wait for another day.

Going this week to see the Laughlin-Miles comet before it gets shipped to Florida for the sale. While I'm there I will get a chance to look over the Nicholson 65 AF/X car as well as others. Taking my dad along to take a few pictures of him reunited with the car. He hasn't seen it in person since it was sold in 65. I saw it last in about 1990 right before Reggie Jackson got it. Should be a good day!

AFX1964;unless there was more than one Nicholson 65,I think you may be getting a shock!! The last pictures I saw of the REAL car there was not much left! The one that was shown in the magazines has to be either a complete rebody or a clone!!! ROY.

I will mention that to the guy that has it. I do know that this one was run through the auction a couple years ago and didn't sell by the prior owner. The last bid I saw was pretty high for any rebody or clone.(or any car for that matter) As extensive as this collection is I'd hope he knows his cars. For sure he knows more than me. I'll see it tomorrow.

    wow, that wagon is hooooooot:)

  12. The wagon is a 50 ft'er. He is asking $9900 and the car needs alot from the pics he sent me. The interior is very rough, 260, auto, and drum brakes. I'm sure it is not nice underneath also, he has had it for sale for over a year. 9 months ago he was asking $11000 and I'm told he has a parts car. I am going to look at it and offer alot less. I already told him that I did not like a few things about the car. When I go I will get more pics.

Roger;that is too bad.The car looks good but sounds like a lot of work for that kind of money.A 260,WTF?Every body has a high dollar,Barret-Jackson quality car for sale lately!!! I could not find a 65 Comet wagon so I'm building my own from a Falcon and some of my spare 65 Comet parts[a lot of work].I lucked out and found the 65 Comet wagon tailights and tailgate trim. I am one of the restorers that did the 65 Nicholson car. It was NOT a rebody per say, but yes, a ton of metal was changed over the years. The owner at the time had a real super collection of real high dollar musclecars and was very adamant about using as much as we could. Everone knows the top was chopped, that was already fixed when we got it. It was altered wheelbase, so quarters were done and rear floor and wheel wells. it had the front frame cut out for a straight axle so the inner fenders and front frame were redone. It would have been the easy way out to just get a doner and swap what little there was, but some real time and cost was put into it. It was finished around 1995, sold to a collector in TN sometime later on. I know its been critiqued pretty hard around here, but at the time we were going on all the pictures and info we could find, some parts werent obtainable at the time. I'll have to try and find some pics and scan, it was before the digital camera age for me. Micky

Roy thats to bad, That is alot of work. I sold a woody comet wagon about 6 years ago and played hell to get 3500.00. It was all origanal and solid....

  16. A friend of mine, Tony Conover found the car in CA. and fixed the roof and frontend. Some things happened and he had to sell the car soon after that. He has told me looking back on it if he kept the car he wishes he would have left the front end alone and restored it back to it's AWB configuration. That is the way it was most succesful and there would have been a bunch more of Dyno's work and original car left. It just looked "tougher" like that too...:D

The restoration is very nice though. Nice work...

The guy I worked for got it from Tony. The top and front were done. I think we still have the old straight axle front in a storage building.

I've seen several "almost the real thing" drag cars for sale lately that claim they were raced since new. Makes me wonder????

I saw that car today along with about 2 inches of documentation as to who had it and when dating back to the original paperwork from LM. I own a body shop and pride myself on my own work but I will have to say that this car is fabulous. The gentleman that has it now also has at least the AWB quarters that were on it when raced in that configuration. I'd take it in a heartbeat and feel good about calling it the real deal.

That'd be cool to screw those quarters up on my shop wall, along with all the other somewhat vintage match bash stuff I have...:D

I don't doubt that the 65 DYNO Comet is a nice car,but if you were spending the kind of money that that car cost I would think you would pay more attention to detail!!Slapper bars,a rear axle that is wrong,it is still a REBODY,no matter what you call it!! ROY.

Roy, It doesnt have slapper bars on it, and the rear is correct, we did have underside shots to make it pretty correct on it how it was. I dont know if you have seen it in person or just some magazine shots to go from.

I have some good photos of the under side of the car taken at one of Brannon's shows and it shows the traction bars attached at the housing and in the front similar to the lift bars on the Thunderbolts but not exactly the same. My photobucket account is full right now and I can't up load them but will try something else when I can figure it out. The car looks right to me and is a very good restoration.

I don't know why people have so much trouble accepting this car. I, along with my departed friend Gopher, talked to one of the restorers whom he knew (I'm sorry I can't remember his name, old age does that to you) and he confirmed that it was not rebodyed as some say although it did require extensive sheet metal replacement and such.

Is there another way to up load photos to this site??
