I was concerened about the bulkyness of the scallop stripes. After comparing them to a pic from Jr's stash I felt better. Looks like Jefferies had the same challenge with all the material on a not so perfect surface.

The brass sheet has struck again. After washing the car (post #838), this is what I found the next morning. OK, NO MORE MR. NICE GUY! I stripped em', burnished em', and coated em'with self etching primer. I found some brass art rattle can paint and removed the paint from the can. This let me spray em' out even with my spray gun. I cleared em' and installed em'. I should have done this in the first place! Is this how you become an expert at something?

The r door latch keeps being tempermental. I'm going to replace it. The new weather strips have been a major pita. You have to shut the doors with authority to get them to close. The drivers door is just starting to come around. I did it before the l.. When I told Jr what a pain they were he said he used '55 Ford truck w/strips on his car. This will have to wait until after the show. Nuthin's easy.

I have to get the car inspected before I can license it. It was great having it on the street. It wants to play. It runs great and everything is nice and bright with the ivory/red int. and the Texas sun. It created a fair amount of excitement at the inspection station. I still don’t have the stance right. I’ve ordered the 4” blocks. Hey! How does everyone like my new w/s sticker? NOT! Yes, those are the stock holes for the cowl w/strip.

Years ago if a Barris crest showed up on a car you got a call from Barris Kustoms attorney. These days all the attorney would want to know is "you did buy it from Barris.Com, right?".

The last trip to the muffler shop. I drove it (of course). The l. shock got installed and the tips were put on the outside of the shackles (thanks Eric).
I put 400# of weight in the trunk to see what it would do. This dropped it 2". This is where it wants to be.
I ordered 4" lowering blocks. They'll probably be here Thursday. I'll take the 3" and 4" blocks and make a 5" set for the car.
Oh by the way, both doors are working good and are all put together. They'll work better and better the more they remain closed.

I also found out why Jr. had a gas can in the trunk. That's right, I ran out of gas about ½ mile from the muffler shop on the way home. Gas mileage must not be part of a 2 carb 8BA. Who cared. Gas was 10 cents (?) a gallon. Mom came and got me. I was happy to show my appreciation when we got home.

Down on the ground, baby! Love the grass.
Ran out of gas? E really means E on this one, don't it? Sounds like E approaching E means E. :D

    WHATS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE?
Well, doing a clone isn't so much fun sometimes. In trying to get this stance right you have to have the skirts on the car. We were alarmed at the ground clearance with these skirts. So a phone call to the man is needed. After explaining our clearance problem he says, you have aftermarket skirts, they're too bulky. I said, wait a minute, these were really nice steel skirts. Jr says that they got so popular that aftermarket co's started making them. Now I ask you, just how much fun can we stand? ROGER!!!!!!!!!!!

I posted this on a different forum a few years ago. It's the write up Barris did on the Conway skirts. Worth taking a look at if you haven't seen it. (I'm sure its old hat to you though)

    http://ruffrodders.com/forum/showthread.php?t=40983

Looking at the topmost photo. It really shows that curve cut into the skirt and It does look like the skirts hang lower than the rocker some.
Almost even with the bottom of the lake pipes.

I have the original little book if you need better scans let me know.

THERE ARE FORCES AT WORK TO KEEP THIS FROM BEING DONE!

I had the skirts cut, fitted, mocked up and tacked in place. My mig welder started to malfunction. It turned out it was the liner in the handle that was coming apart. So here I am completely dead in the water and the clock ticking like an ocean liner bearing down on me. What am I going to do?

Being a two year old Texan I haven't met everybody in my (big) neighborhood but, one of the cool guys that I have met is Norm Rainwater. He's a former body shop owner like myself. He works for American Airlines and plays (oh, how he plays) at auto body on the side. Norm! I gotta call Norm!

He says, bring those skirts down. I have em' back all welded up in about three hours. This car would not be at this point without guys like this. A truer friend you would never find. THANKS NORM! ONWARD!
