And the Lodestar is a conversion of surplus Hudson's, production did continue post WWII as the Lodestar but the simple fact is, they came from the Hudson.
Somewhat like the A.V.Roe Lancastrian , a converted Lancaster. They even completed a number of uncompleted Lancaster's still one the workshop floor at the cessation of hostility's to civil airliners.

EDIT!! OK, I was wrong, the Hudson was variant of the Lockheed Superelectra 14. The Hudson was made for the RAF for maritime recon work.
I learned something, the Hudson came about because the airline that had ordered the Superelectras returned them due to the type crashing too often!! So what do you do? Yup, give it to the Military, those dumb shits wont know!.

Yeah, there were some pix on here a month or so ago of Gable & Stanwyck at INDY at the time they were doing the movie. The back-story on the "four birds" gag shot is an hilarious, true piece of racing history -- even if on the ODD side! LOL. THANKS all for putting all the pieces together!

Putting the Everly Brothers in some perspective.

It would be damned near impossible to overstate the success
and contributions of Don and Phil Everly during a relatively brief
time from 1957 to the early '60s when, like Elvis, they interrup-
ted their career for military service. Also like Elvis, the Everlys
were true homegrown talent, smoothly blending pop, country
and rock&roll. As kids, they used their front porch as a stage,
entertaining friends and neighbors. Breaking in in early '57, their
singles hit the Billboard Top 40 26 times, the Top 100 35 times.
(Hall and Oates is the only other pop duo with greater success,
having 29 Top 40s, though over a 14-year span.) The Beatles,
Bee Gees, Linda Ronstadt and many other acts covered their
songs and/or readily acknowledged being influenced by their
harmonious style.

Their first hit single, "Bye, Bye, Love" had been rejected by 30
other acts, including Elvis, according to Wikipedia. But Don and
Phil drove it to No. 2 in '57, right behind Elvis' "Teddy Bear."
Among other Everly hits that defined our younger days are "Wake
Up, Little Susie," "All I Have to Do Is Dream," "Bird Dog," "Cathy's
Clown," and "When Will I Be Loved." Ever gregarious, Don and/or
Phil have performed with the diverse likes of Buddy Holly & the
Crickets, the Hollies, Paul Simon, Emmylou Harris, Vince Gill, Mark
Knopfler of Dire Straits, and many others.

Born in '37 and '39 respectively, Don and Phil are still strokin' today!

taining, uh, creation. Despite being impossible to categorize,
"RHPS" is officially the film in longest continual release (or did
it escape?) in history. The movie was written by Richard O'Brien
who also sings and serves as Riff-Raff, Frank's right-hand man.
Curry and O'Brien met as fellow members in the London cast
of "Hair" in '68. Five years later, O'Brien and Jim Sharmon had
built a stage musical around a unique "character," to be played
by the versatile Curry.

Love that movie....so cool...so funny...so bizarre.....and way ahead of it's time

 

Jimi, I hate to admit it but this is my all time favorite movie!!
I lived in a Barracks block that was mixed gender when I was at the 1st Field Hospital (Army), I lived up stairs and as barracks NCO had a double room to myself. There were 8 other people on my level, 7 of them were women and one other guy. All of us were into women.......but the other guy. I guess the Aussy Army turns a blind eye to that.
It was fun living with 7 lesbians and I went out a lot with them. To this day one is still about the closest friend I have ever had.
Anyway, one Christmas some of them knocked on my door asking for help. They were putting on a production of The Rocky Horror Show and wanted me to do the set art, I accepted................................ and ended up being a Transylvanian in the production. Man that was serious fun!! Every time I see that movie now I sit there with a stupid grin on my face remembering the time I got to prance around a stage with 80 lesbians!!

Who says the Army isnt varied?

As somebody else has already noted, in the infield is Wally Meskowski, the car owner and crew chief. The driver is Chuck Booth, I believe. The photo was taken during the Hoosier Hundred at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.

Knowing these two, the interpretation is simple...

"Wally, the car just isn't handling real well today."

"Really, Charles, I don't think you're pushing it hard enough."

In a sense, the movie is really kooky and off-the-wall. On the other hand, it's infectiously entertaining. I always find it enjoyable, seeing something new EVERY time. Obviously, doing this play, or movie, was an escapist, contrarian flight of fancy for everybody who worked on it. But somhow, it manages to be topical yet brilliantly entertaining. Why do people want to see it over again, if only now and then and in a crazy MOOD? Expert critics still can't nail down its appeal! LOL

It's sort of like Ed Wood scored some crack and wrote something dumber than "Plan 9 From Outer Space." Yet, it works! What a kooky ride.

As a lifelong Elvis fan, I thank morethings.com for this perfect family
portrait taken about 1970. They seemed so happy then and, I thought,
deserved happiness. But, as John Lennon said, "Life is what happens
while you're making plans." Lennon was a big Elvis admirer. Sadly,
Elvis died in 1977, Lennon in 1980. But, the MUSIC does not die, and
neither do the memories. Doesn't mean the loss doesn't hurt, still.

 

Kooky ride? Oh man you should be smack bang in the middle of a production of it!! I was one of about 10 straight people in the company of about 80, gladly 70 of them were women!!
I was not long back from a deployment to Rwanda that was not very nice, look up what happened at Kibeho. It was a great release to be able to just kick back and be , for want of a better word, an idiot!
The appeal of it? I put it down to the escapism, the absolute lack of reality and the psychological release you get as one does not have to work to enjoy the show.
Whatever it is, lets just enjoy the show.
