According to all of the documents and pictures I saw Wednesday along with the car. I think one would be hard pressed to prove it wasn't.

If only the sheetmetal could speak.

Extended wheel openings an eyesore?? C'mon now... I find all those alterations done to be tastefull. Just depends from what angle, and how far away you are looking at them!!!!:D

I"m thinking of turning my shop into a altered wheelbase museum. Those quarters COULD be the first items donated!!!:D

Ken;I think Cyanide stole somebodys mail box!!!! You must have a serious library of old Ford race car pictures!!! You are always finding new pictures!!!You ass deep in snow?I spent a couple days putting some finishing touches on the trailer.I still have some trim work left but it is looking good.I need to get the Comet out for some more clutch adjusting.I got my confirmation notice today for the MM,I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to Arizona for the opener. There was another post there with a lot more but it seems to be gone.
It's very hard to tell on a car that's probably been beat on and modified over the years. If it still has the original 9" rear end still in it would be a big clue. It has to be a 4 speed, so the tunnel cover plate should look correct. I'm not sure if a HiPo Comet used the removable export brace like the 271HP Falcon.

After seeing a couple pic of the Dyno Don 65 prior to resto, they should have restored the car in the Altered wheelbase configuration. car got more ink in the mags looking that way, and they could have saved more of the original car during the resto too! IMO.

A 271 hp 64 Comet (once again...regular production for US sale) is sort of like UFOs, Unicorns and Bigfoot, alot of people have claimed to have seen one but nobody can provide absolute proof.

There may have been TSBs and there may have been mention in literature...that doesn't mean any were actually built.

Yes there were some B/fx cars, Safari cars and such but they weren't regular production. As I've refered to this before, you could not go to a Mercury dealer in 1964 and purchase a 289/271 Caliente. Nor could you purchase a 289/271 Cyclone. A "K" serial number 64 Comet was a 289 4v with a chrome package.

There was also mention of a 427 option in sales literature for 68 Mustangs, some people claim there were some built but it has never been proven.

    WOW!

Those Cyanide pics sure bring back a lot of old memories of "The Grove" before they enclosed the crossover bridge, built the concrete wall behind the starting line & moved the tower to the other side of the track.

    What a great shot!

  20. This car is now resting at Hajeks Museum in Ames Okla, population maybe 100.

This car is also there but I don't know anything about it

I only have a side shot of the Ugly Duckling but it is also at Hajek's. This place is awesome. It's out in the middle of nowhere Oklahoma in a part underground school and houses over 100 really cool cars. The owner is a really neat guy that allowed us to tour the museum without a guide and let us see his shop where he has 11 new Cobra Jets, vin numbers 1-11.

Man that is cool! I think I should throw away my ladder bars and go to Cal Tracs if they work that good. That is some serious air.

Hajeks museum would e a great stopover on a road trip, with cars like that in the collection!

We came home tonight to a nice surprise, compliments of the owners of Mooneyes! They sent me a package containing framed photographs of the Comet, taken during the Christmas show, along with their Japanese catalog, which now is represented on one page with a big pic of the Rockets front end:

The blackand white photo they took is over the top. I did not spot one non-period correct car in it. And with the palm trees, and the old cement plant in the background, it just reminded me of old shots from Irwindale!!

Roy- confirmation already from MM? I better get cracking!!

But you could "special order" a 1964 Hi-po Comet through the dealership. The data plate would have a 6 digit DSO.

How did these work out for the guys back in the day and are they still a good way to go on a leaf spring car. The reason I am askig is because we are going to try something better then standard slapper bars on this 65 Comet shown below. We changed them so there was no gap and semi preload but I have been wanting to do something different and maybe even a little bit longer bar towards the front of the car.

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA., Flashing past the checkered flag, a team of specially equipped 1964 Comets recently completed 100,000 miles with average speeds of more than 105 miles per hour at the famed Daytona International Speedway here. The cars had been running continuously night and day from September 21, to October 30, through broiling sun, humid heat, squalls, and tropical storms brewed by hurricanes Flora and Ginny in what Lincoln-Mercury Division officials hailed as "one of the most grueling challenges to staying power ever undertaken by a car manufacturer." These Comets set more than 100 worldwide speed and endurance records under official sanction of the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing

Falcongasser...Crites Performance Parts offers a "period correct" crossmember & traction bar set up that works great.

Where did every body go? No new[OLD] photos found? I got some cool news yesterday,my Comet is going to be shot for a CC feature tomorrow afternoon.I'm optimistic as it has been photographed before, twice, for a possible feature,no dice.It looks like there may be at least two maybe three Comets at the March Meet!! ROY.
