American graffiti 3 the prequel

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by sport fury, Jan 8, 2011.

  1. If not a prequel, how about the kid that ends up with Milner's car a few years later.
Or, Toad is still with us. what if his grandson was to start asking questions about the old car in the barn under the tarp? Heck, that could be the opening sequence that leads us BACK to 1955 as he tells his grandson about the legend of John Milner.

As hot rodders what do we normally do? We do it ourselves. Ryan?

  10. ya ya ya but why did MILNER paint it yellow ?

stick with the story line here bucko..

  11. He got in a big fight with the pharrohs over the engine in his coupe.....it made him go color blind, and he thought that his yellow looked like red to him.

milner got the yellow paint at rays automotive for free when he was working there. several cans of the yellow paint were accidently ordered for a customer who had ordered black paint. the paint was unreturnable. nobody wanted to paint thier car yellow so the paint was concidered useless and unsellable. milner did not have much money for paint so ray offered the paint to him for working a few extra hours. milner would rather have his 32 painted yellow than drive it around with a ratty rusty look. (it was the 50's sorry)

Kind of off topic but I just saw the new True Grit movie yesterday. I give it a so-so review. It just seems Hollywood can't think of anything original anymore. Don't mess with American Graffiti!

Myself and lots of others here would be interested in seeing the "prequel" movie, but lets be real, right now there is no interest in anything 50's, or in traditional hot rods and customs by the majority of the public, the people that buy movie tickets. Movies are expensive to make, and studios expect to make a profit. Unless somehow some new trend starts, an interest in 50's culture...music, hair style, clothing, cars, hot rods, etc., I don't see any major studio making the movie.

That said, it may be possible for some small studio to make the movie on a budget, with limted release or direct to video.

it would not be a remake of either of the 2 american graffitis. so it wouild not be messing with them. i agree that hollywood could not possible do justice to a remake. i want to see a prequel. it could also involve present day as another hamb member suggested. movie should be mostly based on milner in the 50s. it would be based on a script that has never been used on the first 2 AGs.

How many of you ever meet Mick Kieffer AKA" Barney Fife"? I meet Mick one hot summer day, we sat under a shade tree and talked about AG. He was a true fan of the movie...
Mick or as we called him, Barny, said he and a friend wrote AG III. his story said they had been in contact with Lucas and others and said they would be interested if all loose ends came together. the story was about the next generation of the original caricatures, one of the kids had the manafee manifold in his bedroom, the only thing left from the crash....he was building a car to beat the son of Falfa, who was blowing about how fast he was. Paul Lemat would do a camio ect..

there have been several movies that have done well that were not based on some recent trendy fad. nobody though american graffiti would succeed because of the era it protrayed. it was made in 72 and came out in 73.

Lucas is kept busy re-re-re-re-doing Star Wars every few years. [He already messed with Graffiti a bit, changing Milners death date.]

An earlier Steve, John, Terry, and Curt would be interesting. But it ain't gonna happen.

Times have changed. Hot rodders are old guys. More and more young people want phones and games, not cars.

Way too late to make it now! Hollywood would fill it out with minorities (either unrealistically fully integrated into every facet, or being victimized), gays, references to liberal causes like imaginary manmade global warming and any character similar to Milner would have to be female who kicks guys asses both with her mechanical and driving skill as well as her martial arts.
It would play with the critics, and hype and special effects as well as out of place modern styles would draw in a young audience, but I'm afraid we'd all be disappointed at best and more likely pissed off!

milner would have his polluting 32 confiscated and be replaced with a new hybrid. the hybrid would have cardboard fins placed on it to make it look like a fifties car. after the filming is completed the cardboard fins would then be recycled of coarse. hollywood could put quite a nasty spin on the prequel movie

When I was about 12 I read the book "Kon Tiki". Abou a raft expedition from South America to the polynesian islands. One photo showed a beautiful girl sitting on a beach playing a ukelele with a palm tree behind her. That was my dream vision of a south seas island. I know if I were to head to polynesia it would look nothing like my ideal.

I have a feeling that if AG 3 were to be made it would bear no relationship to what we have in our minds and we would all be pretty disappointed. I think we are best left with our memories of AG 1.

I can't believe nobody else mentioned this part ...

"Hey, what happened to your flathead?"
    Milner: "Ya motha!"

The AG prequel would be all about Milner's flathead-powered '32. :D

YES. The ideas are really flowing here. :D

glad you like it. i am surprized by the level of people that automatically think they would be diapointed by a prequel movie. if anyone feels that way thats fine. no one is going to force anyone to watch it.
