Remember Hollywood would be making the move. Not the HAMB. I keep having this vision of an actor looking at Milner's '32 with a crate motor in it saying "Nice flathead". We all have ideas as to how it should be done but I doubt that we would be allowed any input.

I wonder what part Larry the Cable Guy could play. Falfa maybe? "C'mon Milner, lets git er done!"

  3. Episode 1: Rise of the Pharaohs
In 1953, an adolescent John Milner -- the eternal loner -- is left an orphan when his parents are killed by a drunk driver. He goes to live with his grandfather (played by Bo Hopkins) and an older cousin, named Joe, who joins the Pharaohs gang and brings an impressionable John along. Parallels to "Blackboard Jungle" are used for the story arc. The movie ends with Grandpa being killed and leaving his '47 Ford coupe to John.

Episode 2: Revenge of the Flathead
John starts street racing the coupe, but has very little success against "the fastest car in the valley" (TFCITV). He continues to be a peripheral participant in the Pharaoh's gang activity, but quits when the gang gets too violent amid clashes with other gangs (Bloods and Cripts translated to 1956). His first steady relationship crashes and burns, starting a process which continues to solidify his loner status. There are several references to Buddy Holly and "that Elvis guy". His job at the gas station gets him in contact with the guy who owns the junk yard, and one day he's complaining about getting beat all the time, when the JY owner says, "I think I might have something for you that just came in." The movie ends with John pulling back a tarp and revealing a black Deuce 5-window....

Episode 3: Return of the King
John builds the '32 while several more relationships end, including one where a surfer dude comes through town and sweeps his "true love" off her feet (idea from paperdog). His new ride is faster, but he still can't beat TFCITV. When his hero, driver of TFCITV, is killed by a drunk driver, John assumes the role of the King of the Valley. He continues to improve the car as faster and faster challengers come his way.

To keep things 'period correct' Milner would have to spend 2 years in the Army - - unless he did jail time; most correct would be a judge giving him a choice of jail or boot camp (real Boot Camp not today's 'alternative')

    Just my $0.02

Clever, except it's Milner who asks the guy in the '36 about his flathead, not the other way around.

Unless '36 guy ended up with Milner's '48 Merc engine after Milner did the 283 (265 in the ideas being bandied about this thread) swap?

Or, we just let Lucas swap the lines with computers in the original AG (Greedo shoots first).

Gee, it's a wonder American Graffiti got made at all without the HAMB.

You, know, AG wasn't a 100% car movie.

I think a prequel of it would be great and use to day dream about it back in the 80's while watching the the first two AG movies at 15 .Always wanted to see what John and Falfa did to get the $$ to build those cars at 17 .I always figured they both had Vintage Meth Labs somewhere ...

Gene Winfields shop was in Modesto in the 50s. Maybe Gene gave him the yellow paint ha ha.

Itd be interesting to see a "pre" movie but I dont think it could be done thru Hollyywood. The back story ideas brought up were pretty interesting as far as the tie between Falfa and Milner...

6 pages in less than a day. Well done.

Ive wasted $8 on worse things than an AG movie.

  14. And please make sure that somewhere in the movie Falfa"s real first name is used-

    ALBERT

Since Al Falfa is such a Hayseed

Its 1969 and Toad opens up a Speedshop in which Henry Winkler is an aged gear head. Toad talks Winkler into going to Bonneville for his last run. Once Winkler gets to the salt flats, Milner's love child shows up out of nowhere and makes the run for the aging Winkler.

I know ....file this under science fiction...

Oh man, you hit the nail on the head. I could just puke about the over-the-top ILM crapola that ruins potentially decent movies. Some seamless computerized nuances work, at times, but the general trend is BORING. A prequel is a great idea in this instance, because a prior history was more than hinted at in the original movie. It could be great, done right. But, alas, it wouldn't be done right, unless possibly by a small unknown film maker not influenced by the great money machine.

  18. Good point...maybe that's where he learned the amazing fighting skills he demonstrated when rescuing Toad.........;)

What if Faith Granger the writer/director of Deuce of Spades, did the movie? She, I think, would do it justice.

i highly recommend the dvd of the first american graffiti. it has the making of the movie in the extras. it interviews the actors. george lucus made american graffiti to show what it was like in 1962 for him. george was very much a hotrodder. he wanted to do it as a 10 year celebration of his graduation from high school. i think i am going to start wearing a t-shirt that says "bring back milner".

I think we should let her do her prequel to Johnny's life first (Deuce of Spades). Shes got that one figured out.

  25. Getting into this race kinda late. One of the things I really enjoyed about the sequel to "American Graffiti" was the feeling that was conveyed that in the early 60's, the biggest things we worried about was getting laid, and who had the fastest car. As the generation of the 60's moved toward it's end we had way more on our plates. We had a war, race issues, etc.
You could do a prequel, but casting would be difficult. Might still be fun tho. Don't know how well it would be recieved now, a lot of the movie going public wouldn't be into a "hot rod" movie. Mike

Thinking about this, I think it would work...if they had some teenage vampires in there. They cruise at night don't they?

Or, they could have Miner and the gang battling Russian cold war spies.

    Lotsa possibilities.

  28. I think a prequel is a hell of an idea.MILLIONS of new Star Wars fans turned up 25 years later to watch THREE prequels of an old movie. IF Lucas put his heart in it, it would be HUGE. Plus, a new generation of actors/actresses could start a wonderful career with a blockbuster. Everyone says it cant be done, this should be enough reason for old George to prove them all wrong, AGAIN!!!

Hey, anybody ever see that last Terminator movie where they had digitally re-created "young Arnold Schwarz..." near the end! They can do some amazing things with CGI these days.

  30. Put Lady Gaga in the white T-Bird:D:p:eek:
