Thanks Keith. Hope to have all the sheet metal done by the end of next month. Then I'll pull the body off and finish the last things/welds on the chassis, before getting that blasted and painted. Then the real fun can begin!

claymore and OahuEli, I can't wait either. For the time being, we will all need to just keep watching the initial start up.......http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bynIPFTZK9Q

  5. Awesome motor and build, would love to have a portion of the talent (and hardware) displayed on this thread.
But the motor, will it be streetable?
I've driven street cars and I've driven race cars. Really hard to mix the two.

Thanks Artfrombama for the kind words. The engine has a very mild cam and I don't plan to do any racing with it. I don't expect more than around 400 hp on the rear wheels due to drivetrain loss etc. It may be wise on my part to purchase a few extra tires though....

    G R E A T B U I L D -- It'll be smokin when it is done

That engine will be fine on the street -- the EFI will make easier to drive and I've found that you can run a very radical engine with a manual trans a lot easier than with a auto. Geez, I've got 400+ HP out of my 4 banger, and I'm driving it on the street

Thank you for the compliment Fiatdude. I don't think the horsepower will be any problem either, considering the car is fairly heavy. With a 5 speed, efi and a mild cam it should be ok. Just curious how long the rear tires will last though.....once I've used the car for a few thousand miles, I'd like to have it dynoed, just out of curiousity....

Today I fabricated the pieces to cover the two small holes uncovering the chassis. The initial plan was to fabricate a simple u-shape but decided against it. I fabricated pieces that will intergrate with the already made side panels, for a sturdier and cleaner look.

  11. Those look fantastic!

Better than factory look with configuration and the plug welds.

Made a ladder type frame above the c notch, in order to be able to close it with sheet metal. Also indented two pieces to stop it from resonating. Tomorrow I'll do final fabrication and fitting. Will have it all in place by the end of the day. (I hope)

You'll find that tires don't last very long when your leaving those big smokies going down the street -- -- Tire life, or the lack thereof, is directly porportional to the thickness of the black marks LOL

Wish I had your fabrication skill and patience

  18. I'd say it like this:

Tire life, or the lack thereof, is directly proportional to the weight of the right foot and indirectly proportional to the mass of the ass.

farmer~ Do you have job? How do you get so much work done on your car? You must be single with no kids! Maybe I could get more done on my car if I would quit watching you build yours!!!! Seriously though, you are doing some awesome fab work, I am really enjoying this build. Very inspirational to say the least.

  20. Great work as usual Farmer! This question may be a bit early to ask, but will you be putting some sound deadening material on the interior panels of the car? (Lizard Skin, Dyanmat, etc) The reason I ask is because you mention several times about putting "creases" in the panels to keep them from resonating (I know this also increases the strength of the panel) and I was just thinking an extra layer of sound deadening would add even more anti-resonating properties to the panel.

Anyway, continue the great work. One of these days I'll get to work on my Ranchero...

Thanks for the compliments Rob. Yes, I do have a fulltime job as an airline pilot, giving me 3 days off a week on average. These days I work on the car for 10-12 hours, not including an hour drive to and from the shop. I just don't want this car to become a 5 year project, that's why I'm putting in the hours. And yes, I do have a very understanding wife and 3 kids!

Finished off the two top panels today. I just clamped them losely in place for the pics awaiting final spot welding, hopefully next week. I'll be working on the car again next wednesday when I'll tackle the area below the hat shelf. I'm still wondering if I'll move the frame behind the driver forward in order to create a bit more space for the fuel tank and airride set up. I'll have a few days to think about that I guess....

Thanks Hivolt5.0! Yes, I'll be using Dynamat for everything. This, I thought, was only for sound deadening and heat and not resonating. By adding "creases", like you said, improves strength and also stop panels from vibrating at certain frequencies. Maybe I'm slightly overdoing it, but I just don't like any rattles in a car.......I just want to hear the Hemi roar! Thanks for your interest and advice. Eric/farmer12
