Great job! I am stealing some of your body mount ideas for my coupe

  3. Love the way your rodney is shaping up. Great work and ideas. This type of thread is my favorite on the HAMB. The nuts and bolts and original ideas for building a car. Fantastic.
Looks like your frame should be pretty rigid. The mounting for the pedals is inspiring.
Your rod sits just right too.
Good luck on the rest of the build.

So it was midnight last night. I had coolant in my roadster. I had a few drops of fuel left in the tank. My roadster was running good. I hopped in the seat and pushed in the clutch - and it wouldn't go into gear. I'm that damn close and it won't go into gear!! I'm pretty sure it's a going to be a simple clutch adjustment. Probably just lengthening the push rod on the slave cylinder. It's probably a good thing I was unable to get the tranny into gear. After-all, it was midnight and 30 friggin degrees "warm" outside. But, nothing will stop me from backing it out of my shop and taking it for a trip around the block today.

Anyway, attached are some pics of my roadster up on the hoist to get some exhaust bent up and shot out the back. I loaded it up on our trailer and brought it down to the local Chevy garage yesterday. I called up a good friend to give me a hand bending up some 2.25" tubing. An hour later I have exhaust coming out the back of my car instead of right under my butt.

Is that plate you have welded in between your rear crossmember and rear frame rail?

Cool car. I like the stance and tire combo.

Yes, that is 1/4" plate steel. I hope that's going to be enough to keep the frame square.

    And thanks for the compliment.

Well, I've driven it twice already today. It's a pretty damn fun ride. I can tell already that a 283 SBC, 3 speed manual tranny, and 3.73 gears in the rear is going to be a crazy quick combination. I am going to have to find someone to take a video of it so I can post a link later today.

Thanks for all the positive comments, guys.

Damn, man.....so nice! Maybe it's all in my head, but I could tell it was a 283 the moment I heard it. Makes me want to pull mine out of my 50 and put it in my soon-to-be coupester, as well. GREAT JOB!

Today was spent out of the shop doing some things I had been putting off to work on my roadster. However, I couldn't help but take it for a small cruise. I also took some more pics of some things that probably haven't been shown in much detail yet. Oh yeah, the plug wires are temporary. They will be swapped with some shorter, more appropriate looking wires.

  15. Looks good man. I'm really diggin the low and flat on deck stance. Nice clean lines front to back with the wishbones and the way you stepped the frame. Keep it up!

Picked up my coupester body last weekend...VERY stoked. I've got a question for you.....did you have issues getting the doors to align correctly with the curvature of the back portion of the body? You can see what I'm talking about on my thread:

Keep the updates coming....it's looking SO choice. MEGA inspiration!

The Roadster is lookin' real good. Video was cool. Looks good, sounds good, runs good and you built it yourself, out of nuthin". Doesn't get much better than that.
    Well Done.

Since the doors were originally from a 28-29 A pickup, they didn't even come close to matching the body line of the sport coupe rear half. I would have had problems but, I rebuilt the doors entirely.

First I cut the bottoms of the doors off - they needed to be patched anyway. They were also about 4 inches too tall for the sport coupe rear half. Then I cut the cowl hinge posts off because the hinges needed to be moved down on the cowl. After I fabbed up the hinge post on the cowl, I was able to attach the doors back to the cowl section. From there I was able to figure out how tall the doors needed to be in order to match both the cowl section and the sport couple rear section. After that I attached the bottom patch panels to the doors. After all that I decided to remove about 3/4" from the doors - they were too thick.

After all that I was able to get the doors to match up pretty well. I still have to do some work to the bottoms of the doors to get them to match the body curve a bit better. Unfortunately I didn't take any pics of all that fab work.

What do you have in mind for a radiator grill setup?

The radiator I am using now is a $125 19" h x 22" w Speedway radiator. It was intended for a Ford. I rotated it to be 22" w x 19" w to fit into a '28 - '29 grille shell and of course work for a SBC. I removed the filler from the radiator and capped off the opening. As you can see I am using an inline filler instead. I also had to cut and raise the lower outlet on the radiator. I will take a pic the next time I go out to my shop.

First I'm going to spend some time on some projects around the house. I should probably do something about the wall I started tearing out about two months ago. I also hope to help my dad as much as possible on his new shop. He hopes to get his T coupe on the road by next summer. That won't happen without a functional shop. I won't forget about my roadster, though.

What are your winter projects, Chubbie?

  23. Love your roadster, that's about what I've been trying to get to, except with a Chevy.
Picked up a lot of great ideas, thanks

Hey man, what a guy, making the afore mentioned lemonade. And giving it to his daughter, Avery's A, has a nice ring to it and would look good striped on the dash or elsewhere on the roadster. I think you deserve an Atta Boy for this great save on an e-bay bullshitters item. Good work man. ~sololobo~
