Pease don't crucifie me but does any body know where some good 60-63 doors are? I know this should probably be in the parts wanted section, but I figured that this would be a little more direct.
    Thanks!

Here's a shot of my wife's '66. We had to sell it to close on our house. She still tears up when she thinks about it. Hopefully we'll be able to build her another one in the next few years.

Doing some more work on 64cheb's 283. Got it torn down to shortblock today, to prep for cleaning. Found an extremely stretched timing set, 3 dead plugs (may explain the poor mileage and low power? hmmm), some stuck lifters, and a completely rounded cam lobe. The pistons looked oversized, and in great shape. The bores are excellent, as are the cam bearings. No sludge whatsoever inside the motor, it was all stuck to the outside. ;)

    The timing set of SHAME:

He is going to pick up a gear-drive timing set, aluminum timing cover, and possibly headers later this week. Also going to try to find an RV cam and lifters (Isky?). Has a 4bbl manifold already waiting. It should be pretty nice, and have a ton more power.

That timing set looks cherry compared to the one that came out of the 283 in my Suburban. It was hanging off the bottom gear and only connecting on the up-side. I could pinch the sides of the chain between the gears, and nearly lay them the whole way around the gears.
Green Mountain Boy's was even worse--his has so much slop in it, the slack came around and rubbed on the timing chain cover, wearing a small hole in it.

I wouldn't put a gear-drive timing set on yours... it's loud, which will be cool for the first 1,000 miles, and then you'll want to rip the thing off with your bare hands. But worse, it chews up a BUNCH of horsepower.

The pic doesn't really show the slack very well, looked worse in person.
The whole gear drive thing fell through, so he just picked up a standard Cloyes double-roller set. He also found out that most nearly every cylinder had broken rings (surprising since there was no smoke). So how exactly did a clean and re-gasket turn into a full rebuild??
