This is how the car looks now. (will not be at the GNRS Customs Then & Now)

    Edit:
I was just notified that instead of having the Joe Moreno 1941 Ford Coupe we will have this mint green 1941 Sedan Convertible instead.

That makes sense. Thats why we dont see it around anymore, cause its been transformed!

Its beautiful, probably even nicer than it ever was, but..... i loved the grille and head light tratment on the previous version, the "peak" on the fadeaways was also a unique touch.
I think he should have kept it and build a new one.

Bonez. I'm not talking about the 41 Convertible with the Buick grille (that car is still around, only in a private collection and the new owner does not show it around) The mint green sedan convertible with the quad headlights was made from the white sedan with pink flames!

The 41 convert. with the padded top and Buick grille was originally commissioned by john coneley and built by bill reasoner also..the car is still around I just saw it this last summer at the San Rafael concours. Still looks the same.

    Axle,

We shipped the Raven out today for the History of the Custom at the GNRS. We are getting real excited about being there. Axle, thank you so much for your thoughtful consideration.

Arthur Bentas, who designed and built the Raven, will be making the journey to the GNRS also. Arthur is almost 89 and as excited as a kid to make the trip. His brother Chuck, who is only 85 is also making the trip as well as both of their girl friends.

Here are some pics as we were loading up today. The car is scheduled to arrive at the Petersen around the 20th and then onto Pomona and the GNRS.

See you all in a few weeks.

And thank you Joe, for being a special part of this prestigious event. Your car will be at home with all the other historical Customs. Have a safe trip out to California.

Well you know 59Kustom you are always welcome in our shop. The car will be in CA for a while. It will be going from the GNRS to the Petersen on exhibit for the next year.

If you don't make it to the GNRS, holler up and come by next year when the car is back home.

I haven't been to WOW in 20 years. I got tired of dropping $100+ to look at Camaros & Mustangs, & Imports.

    59Kustom ....

Please make sure you stop by. Arthur will be there and you will find him to be a real hoot, even at 89 years old.

So close before a major show its always hectic.
And the Customs Then & Now exhibit is no differnt.
Right now we have all the cars that we want, but at the last moment things always like to change.

Last week I announced that Joe Moreno would bring his 1941 Ford Coupe, that was once owned by Richard Zocchi (Post #824).
Well this morning I was informed that Joe will not bring his Coupe, but his mint green 1941 Sedan Convertible, which he named "Lost Art 1" instead.
I had already mentioned this car in this post, and the historic part of the car is rather similar to the coupe.

The car was originally built by Bill Reasoner as a heavily chopped sedan with full fade away fenders as his own personal custom car. The car was painted white with pink flames.

At one point Bill sold the car to Joe Moreno, who repainted the flames in green, and painted the window frames black to make the impression of a Hard Top body. The chassis work was doen by Bob Wesbury
Joe liked the looks of the visually Hard Topped body so much that a couple of years ago he decided to redo the car and this time do it as Hard Top Convertible (with a fixed, but padded top.)

The team at Jimenez Bros Customs Garage was responsible for the rebuilt of the 1941 Ford. They added 1962 Chrysler quad headlights to the extended front fenders. And reshaped the top to make it look like a removable Padded Top. The whole back of the car was angled forward to create an almost fleetline look. At the rear they made custom fender skirts and made them fit the fenders flush using a lip around it that was blended into the body.
The engine compartment was covered with all custom made body panel.

Joe Moreno was very much involved in the whole design process of this car, and was very specific about the the color. He wanted to use the real - outlawed - Murano pearls. He ended up using three different (blue, opal and green) shades of the pearl powders to create the end result.

The car is a nice sample of a recently built custom with a strong line to the 1980's Custom Car scene. Using modern technologies and styles, but all on a very strong 1950's theme.

Right on Joe. Only outlaws can paint true old style customs these days.
