Tommy Watts.........he owned a gas station in Williamstown, Victoria, and 'bout '64 he signed a contract with Mobil to buy gas at 8 or 10 cents a gallon for 5 or 10 years........no need to explain that the retail price skyrocketed in the next couple of years (27 cents retail at the time). Spent most of his profit running Unlimited Hydroplanes which were not safe to put in a bathtub. Mostly made from ACE hardware sanitary fittings! There were 4 or 5 Merlin/Packard Unlimiteds running late 60's. Couple of Miss Buds were imported 1970(?) Bumpnrun, Pay n' Pak was a local N/W hardware and building supply store. Kind of like Home Depot, with out lumber and B/S. ...........Jack
I was trying NOT to remember!!!!!!!!!!!! OK u found me. Great library of pics u got there..........keep em coming. My buddy is in that Aggressor video. When they pan to right following the boats he's the guy with orange tee and black hair/sideboards. His name is Glen Coombs, built a 100 cu in hydro with him in college....Aussie water speed record 100 c.i. 105 mph (Coombro) His father was 255 cu in National Champ for few years with Falcon six/Hilborn hydor(Russco). Once had to catch a Merlin powered Unlimited when it holed a sponson on debris right in front where that video was shot at Eppalock........15 of us waded in chest deep to stop it sinking til the crane got hooked-up. Great days, was always 100* in the waterbag that January race weekend. Good to hear from you Rick. Have another tee with my #14 sprinter on it in the same style as the blu/yellow if ur interested. My car is on the sprintcar thread. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=236178&page=640 bought it since Bonneville. Jim
Thanks, we bought plans from Glen L. Much easier to build than I would have thought. I'm collecting parts now for a copy of an 18' 1935 hackercraft, rum runner hydro. Can't live on cars alone!
You guys have probably seen this already, but here's my old '65 Stevens with the Hemi in it, then after I redid it and put a Nailhead in it...that was a fun boat!!
I don't know how speedy it was, but how about Mrs. Henry Ford's electric runabout, the Callie B: -Dave
