I have recently experienced HAMBERS who respond to a classified add saying they want the part and will send the $$ tomorrow or right away and then you never hear from them again.
Kind of annoying after you have boxed up the part and taken it to the post office to get shipping cost for the "alledged" buyer. Is this happening to others?

On the other end, I've been first to jump on a product for sale ready to send money and the product has been mysteriously sold somewhere else first. That has happened to me twice recently. Why do people advertise stuff in more than one place at first.:(

How about guys who ask to buy a part you didn't even advertise, then they disappear? Why'd they ask in the first place?

Thats why I only use paypal and a guess at the shipping price ,
The last sale I screwed up on and shipping was 43,00 dollars higher than I quoted ,I hated to ask ,I asked to split the extra cost with me and he sent me the whole amount after I shipped it .Great guy 63 wagonman........And yes Im also guilty of backing out of deals ,Sometimes this happens ,A good product sells it self..........Then there is the financial obligations .........Some times the financial obligations outweigh the product .....I really wanted to buy a pair of wheels in nj for 50 and that month I was so broke ,Barely paid the bills

It is annoying when someone backs out without the back bone to even tell you so.
I've bought cars that I wanted to back out on but gave my word I would take it so I did. I've lost out on sales because someone has told me that we had a deal so I took it off the market when others showed interest, only for them to mysteriously disappear. I've also had people offer more on a car but didn't take it because I had already struck a deal with the first guy. That's hard to do, especially if it hits at a time when you need the coin. ...guess people are raised different.

It goes the other way too. I have bought and sold several parts from HAMBer's with no problems. I even had one last week that sent the goods before I had sent him payment and a couple others that gave me the goods for shipping costs. But then again I'm waiting for a couple others to give shipping cost so I can send the coinage for parts they advertised and it’s been weeks.

.....I hate that when they do that......Don't know what you can do......most of the hambers are great, know craigslist its happens more......guess more assholes out in the pubic.....thanks for the thread....I'll be watching for answers..too....

  8. How about someone who advertises in the classifieds, then you dicker a bit on the price and you say "I'll take it just send me a photo", then they say "well, that's a hassle, I'm pretty busy", then they disappear for a week or two so you start to feel like you're harrassing them when you send PMs, and you say "hey, I could really use that widget, what's the deal?" and they come back a few days later and say... "I've decided to keep it".

there is no reason to mess up on shipping. no matter who you use they have a website to calculate shipping.

nothing is "sold" until the money has changed hands and the item is leaving the premises. when I can take a promise to the store and buy some beer, then it will mean something. I make this clear to anyone who wants something I have.

if selling junk was easy everyone would do it. I have a buddy who would rather throw something away than try to sell it. no old car parts, just regular stuff.

    cash is king.

Its the economy. Folks that would normally have the spare money find themselves short, people that owe them miss their payments and so on...
These are not the 'good old days' that we'll look back on in fondness.

I agree with MJ40's, not everyone out there is bad. I've had far more good deals than bad ones.

postage price calculators are way off. Different oversize measurements for different overseas areas .Trust me I Know .Out of 320 deals I screwed up really bad twice

  14. It's happened to me a few times. But, worse than that...I had a "want ad" and someone else stole my deal....and the seller allowed it. The seller's excuse was he didn't want to ship. My question then was "why in the fuck did you respond to my ad"?

Good communications resolves most problems and without good communications your probably going to get shafted.

This has happened to me more than once on this site. I even said "OK, I'll take it, How much is shipping?" and found out later they sold it to someone else. I guess the "OK, I'll take it" was confusing!

  17. I sell on eBay and have not had a problem.
As for shipping you can set up an account with the USPS.
    Its free.
    Free is Good.
After you print out the shipping label all you do is drop it off your package at the Post Office.
No standing in line or guessing the shipping cost.
I also ship overseas using the USPS.
One more thing you get a 10% off when you do your own shipping.

  18. Fedex rate site is deadly accurate. It was off by only a buck on a 45Lb package going 3000 miles last week. Expensive:eek:, but accurate

Stuff happens. People see something the like, they inquire about it, then they look in their wallet or give it some thought and they forget about it. Sometimes they find a better deal elsewhere or ask a friend for advice about the part or whatever. Nothing to worry about. I've had some stuff for sale locally for months on craigslist. Lots of interest, lots of calls and promises to show up, but nobody ever makes it out. Oh well. It's still for sale. I've been on both ends of this selling and buying, it's nothing to get worked up about.

Yup...I have a very nice iron 57 Pontiac intake in a box with carved foam, triple thick cardboard and about 8 bucks in special high-strength tape....buyer said shipping would break his bank after I took it to fedex/UPs and USPS for quotes. Won't make that mistake again.

  21. I ran into a guy at the local junkyard last week, he takes pics of parts then posts stuff for sale on eBay and craigslist. If the item sells he'll go back and pull it.

So they can sell their stuff! Do you expect Wal-Mart to only advertise in one newspaper?

  27. I have had several back out here on the HAMB but overall I have had very good sales history here. I feel like life happens and if they don't buy it just was'nt meant to be. I recommend and abide by the rule of when you PM me for the purchase and we have agreed to a price and freight, at that time you have 3 days to get payment to me or no deal now or in the future, burned bridge, done and over, no hard feelings, but you have presented information about your self that tells who you really are. I got this phillosphy from another Hamb member, Grits, when doing a purchase from him and I thought, thats a simple and efficient rule to use. Happy bartering!

    It works both ways...
I wanted to buy a set of glass '32 fenders and running boards off the HAMB classified from a guy who had been a member for over a year and had over 100 posts. Sent him a deposit [$100] and never heard from him again.

I don't think I agree with this. Even in these tough times, I am still aware of how much money I have to spend. If I have a bill coming due I pay it first and then see if I have any "Spare" money to spend on car parts. I think its just that people have no self respect or respect for others. Any parts that I sell are still for sale until the money exchanges hands. I've been burnt too many times.
