I`ve got a neat 56 Y-block out of a freinds t-bird. I want to build it for a model A but need some good inspiration. I remember seeing some very nice pictures but can not seem to find them now, so let`s see those neat detailed Y-blocks. :D

here's mine.. as it sits now. as far as details.. notice the casting is smoothed out. I didn't go way overboard but it is alot better than it came from ford.

I'll have it done in a week or so and post it again. Oh, and it's a 312.

They are a great little engine, and the sound is as unique as the flathead...

but, what about the funky intake ports and finding hydraulic lifters is next to impossible.(/sarcasm)

After the flathead the Y block is my favorite Ford engine. If my Galaxie hadn't come with an FE I would have put a 292 or a 312 in it.

  24. That is one sweet'y'
I'll rush off now to post some of mine.

  25. Heres some of mine, and some Ive seen on ebay etc. over the years! I love y blocks. I run em in boats and Im thinking of running a 6x97 y block in my '36 Ford ute. The y block in the 'Thunderbird' boat is a 292 factory 4 barrel which is actually rare in Australia as 99% were 272's. The 292 was only an option in F500,600's etc. correct me if Im wrong, remember i'm talking of Australia here.Never 312's here.
Actually found two in a s**** yard not far from here just today.

That 292 in 'Thunderbird' has some old hot bits in it according to the original owner who was a Ford trained mechanic that built it, and I can tell you it goes like hell, makes lots of noise doing it and no ****, pulls up three skiers with its super dooper old school grunt. When you gun it, all the birds fly out of the trees for miles!
****MAY GOD BLESS THE Y-BLOCK*** Amen.
P.S. Thanks for the kind words Hack Attack about the y block. Yes, It is loud as people have always told me.Been pulled over by the water cops a fair few times in that old water hot rod.

Any one give me a lead on one of those 'Interceptor Marine side draft set ups? Do they work well with the twin Carters?

im not that familiar with the Y blocks, maybe you guys can give me a clue. i have a 54 merc engine, still in the car which is being parted, that is in unknown condition. it has been sitting under cover for many years but don't look terrible. i am mostly a flathead guy but am interested in these Y blocks. what can you tell me about the 54 merc engine? thanks.
