here's one i saw in the Adelaide Hills in Australia a couple of years ago. Apparently use to be a push car at Bonneville
I never knew about the '41 Standard deliveries. I had seen only one previous to reading this thread, and didn't notice that it was a different front end from all the '40 deliveries I've ever seen. I used to see this yellow one at BTT50s in MN. I was surprised to discover that the front wheels are 13" -- well-proportioned truck! Here's a nice "'39 Deluxe" delivery, I believe done by Brizio recently. Yes, I think it's a phantom; it has a '40 dash in it:
As far as I can tell, yes. The '39 delivery body is the same as the previous several years; the '40 body was all new. I think that the few I've seen that have the '39 Dlx front clip on the '40 style body (like the green one above) are most likely phantoms.
I'm talking through my hat now, but I had the impression that delivery rear fenders were the same 35-39.
Here are some from South Australia. In regards to the one in the Adelaide Hills, It belongs to a mate and is currently apart for some work. Its in bare metal and has a 10/10 body -mint. I'll call him and ask.
The Beatty SD can be seen in LA. I purchased the car from Jack in Detroit in 1989 and drove it for a few years not knowing the history. I sold the car to a fellow in LA who redid the car and painted it Turquoise. Jack told me Jim Bailey purchased the car in CA and took it back to MI, beat out the dents in the top from its Bonnedville days, and repaired the front floor from the Olds installation. The body was very good except for the dents in the roof. I lost track of the car and have not seen it for years but understand it is still around. The last picture is what the car looked like when I purchased it from Jack. Ford built both standard and deluxe 40 SD's and all 41's were equipped with the standard grille and 41 trim. The rear doors are different on 41's. Henry added an access hole to repair the often damaged rear door panel. The latch mechanism is different also. The black car shown below in row two was one of the original 40 std's and carried the different VIN number. Ford introduced the inline six engine in 41 and the front crossmember was changed to allow room for the engine. The gas filler hole was changed sometime in 40 and you will see both types on 40 and 41 as Ford used what they had available at the time. You should not have trouble finding one as they seem to be available for a reasonable amount. I purchased Andre, the rusty looking one, about a year ago for storage fees and it was rust free. Good luck and you can follow SD's and Andre's progress on my site Pewsplace.com
Good news I just bought one today....its a little rougher than what I had hoped for but the price and location was right...I actually p*** by the place its sitting everyday to and from work and I just found out it was there when my boss told me so I stopped to look at another car and shot him an offer and he just called today and said he would sell....I'm stoked....
OK, now to practice driving it, go find a cave and sit a few feet back in looking out. When I re-do mine, I'm going to tie a television camera mounted in the right rear tail light to the turn signal for that side and have a small screen up on the rear view mirror.
im used to driving sedan deliveries and panel trucks my daily is an HHR panel and this is my 50 Chevy
After the fact, Found this '41 in a blog listed in Alabama at a junkyard. http://www.junkyardlife.com/2010_04_11_archive.html There's a '40 in Racing Junk too. http://www.racingjunk.com/category/1064/Ford/post/2076284/40-ford-sedan-delivery-project.html
i saw both of them when i started my hunt....believe it or not its extremely hard to find one thats stock and un restored...im working on a deal for a second really nice on in NC
How about a bump for those '40/41 SDs. Mine has been off the road since 2008 - I need to get back on it so I need motivation guys. Here it is in all it's former glory....
Electrical fault and sub standard hillbilly wiring sidelined it and a former buddy (I can fix that in no time) ripped out the wiring harness and left it like that with the dash removed and the 5.0 Mustang EFI and ECU pulled off the engine. So now it needs new dash installed, rewiring and some paint and body. It ran pretty good and I drove it several thousand miles before the gremlins got it. Good time to fix the cowl with original sheet metal where the cowl vent had been welded and bondoed shut, install stock type wiper mechanism. Other than that it is pretty solid and the body is in really nice shape.....
This is one of allegedly 400 1940 Sedan Deilveries built as a fleet purchase for Coca Cola in 1940. I'm thinking mine would look good in this livery, but would have to check with the Coca Cola Trademark Police. Anyone have any info to back up this story which must be true since I found it and an article on this SD on the web....
