During the Holidays I ran up to Northern MN to check out a 40 Deluxe Business Coupe. The owner was a little reticent and said he had two other people first in line that he had sent pictures to. I let a week go buy and called, made an offer, which he refused. He wanted to play out a few long distance buyers. Last weekend I called and he was tiring of dealing with long distance buyers, sending pictures, waiting etc. and said come and get it. Thanks to Darrrel and Tony for lending me the trailer, and my Dad for helping out.

So here it is, garage stored since 1972 with 67,000 miles. He sprayed the body in lacquer primer to preserve the car, rebuilt the flathead, and pulled the glass to install new glass and rubber but never finished the work. Here's the car, the headlight rings, and other misc parts came with.

To see it run go here! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=560683

Me on the left, the previous owner on the right, we both look happy and cold. It was in the low teens.

Got it home just fine. I have a Kwik Lift and twice now I've been able to unload by mating the trailer to the lift.

Here is the first clue on how nice this old car is. I used some lacquer thinner and rubbed away the primer. The Jambs are original paint, it looks like the car had one repaint a slightly lighter color.

Any ideas on what would cut the primer faster, maybe a thinner and and a scotchbright? Acetone??

Toeboard area still has original paint.

Dash is really nice, complete except the clock is missing. I should be able to wax and polish the moldings and dash. Key is still in the ignition

Seat the door panels are pretty nice yet.

Both visor have vanity mirrors. Check out the drivers side

    Rockers are pretty damn nice.

Bottom of door jamb pretty damn nice.

Just need the battery and few squirts of gas.

Speaking of the engine, here it is. It should start......We'll see. It also came heater assembly that captured exhaust heat. I've never see one.

    Under the hood is nice.

Inside the rear wheel wells. I can't believe how nice this area is.

    Inside trunk.

The bad area. Something, maybe a battery, or cardboard box must have sat in the trunk floor and rusted through.

Since the rear floor is rusted I am thinking of dropping the whole body onto a Jeep Cherokee chassis to get updated suspension and brakes. The wheel base is off so I will probably stretch the body through the rear quarters.

Seriously, thinking traditional build, stock color, dropped axle, split bones, 16" steelies, maybe a SBC, manual tranny, 9" rear, stock column, dash etc.

Nice buy. I'm a huge SBC fan, but man...that flatty is the ticket! Don't change it, unless to upgrade to a better/bigger/faster flatty! My $.02

I love the look of a flatty, expecially in a 40....but I am just not sure I could run one. If I do a SBC it would be dressed to look like a early 265 or 283, simple and clean, no air.

I can understand that especially when you consider driving style, etc. I'm sure others will chime in about drivability of a flathead but dollar to dollar it's much cheaper to put together a good running SBC.
    Regardless how you go...great score!

No date, but only 5 miles since the last change, so it should be good for another 3000 miles right?:)

I vote flatty with a dropped axle. Paint the firewall and lose the hood :). Perfect hot rod!
