Anyone out there running a sbc 350 with a 2 core mustang radiator.... I've mocked up my frontend with the 2 core radiator that was used, and now I'm trying to get this thing done for Lonestar and was thinking if the 2 core will work fine, then I'll use it. Sure could use that extra cash towards vinyl instead of a 3 row radiator....

Let me know before I go getting the inlet moved!! :D

    Thanks Fellas!!!!

  2. ive heard lots of folks running them. i decided to spend the money on building the stock a one into a custom radiator cause i didnt liek teh look of a mustang radiator. it looks like its ment for somthing other than a hot rod when they are in a hot rod.

  3. 2 core wouldn't do a very good job keeping a 289 cool let alone a Fire Breathing 350 Chevy >>>>.

Yea I agree, but I just had to stay with a budget. I would much rather had used my stock A radiator and got it recored to my size, but man $350 went a long ways for other parts!!

Chad, I used a Mustang radiator and a 307 in a T bucket that I built awhile back. I never had any overheating issues. Also had a flex fan and no shroud.... You should be ok, but might want to save up for the 3 core after you do the round up. You're on a roll man!!!

Thanks AZ!! Yea I figured, what the heck I got it. I'll try it and if it crumbles under pressure it's easy enough to grab one from the parts house have the inlet moved and slap it back in!! :D

I used one....with a '57 chevy fan that i had to cut 1" off all four blades to clear the top radiator hose. It ran very cool.... cruised around all day in 105 degree temp and it wouldnt get hot unless i held it at 4000 rmps for too long.... but it cooled right down when i got back to cruising rmps

Ive got an Mustang A/C (3 row core) radiator infront of the 350 in my '32 Ford Pickup. With a 12" mechanical fan (all that will fit) it runs cool on the highway, but the temp starts to come up as soon as you get into any traffic. The 12" electric fan helps to keep the temp down to 205-210 on a warm day...on a hot day all bets are off!

    Chop32, that's why I'm gonna run a 16" fan with a shroud! :)

GrungyGary, was that a two row radiator you're talking about?

My dad has one on his 283 T-bucket, it runs so cool most the time you don't even have to turn on the fan.

Just curious, which Mustang radiator are you using? I use the one for a '66 from Autozone ($135) and didn't have to move the inlet moved. BTW, I have yet to have any problems with it even in parades.

  16. A cooper radiator has an "R" value about a third of an aluminum radiator. When someone says they have an aluminum radiator and brag about it I usually try to keep my mouth shut. I think advertising sells.

    Chad,

The T I have uses a 65' mustang radiator and a Hayden electric fan. I had to use a catch can too, becasue over time enough coolant would spit out that it would get low. I think that is inherant to the fact that the motor sits higher than the radiator. It also has a model A grill. I think it looks great. I can take all the pictures you want of it if you need them.

Chad, My T has a Mustang radiator with an electric fan that pushes from the front. My car doesn't over heat. It does get around 200 when you are on the highway at speed. As soon as you are back on side roads with stop and go, the temp goes back down to around 175.

The fan mine uses mounts behind the radiator. Temp doesn't go above 180* most of the time. If it's really hot, it may push 190*

I thought I might have hi-jacked your thread so I took mine off the post. I just changed the fill system to a modified Moroso unit. I'm hoping this will stop my having to monitor the coolant level before every drive. Here is the new stuff.

For what it is worth, that Mustang unit should handle most streetable small blocks.....or so I have been told.

BTW, I have filled the oil fill hole you can see with a 1.250 freeze plug. Now I have to fill the oil through the breather on the drivers side

I got a Mustang V-8 radiator for a '65. I don't remember how many rows it is but its not real thick. It cools the 307 in my jeep just fine.
