TON of work TONof money...im actually selling off my projects including my 36 3-window(i know i know) to fund this
Congrats on the boat. You will enjoy it. My brother Ron was into boats for many years and was pres for awhile of the Ottawa area antique boat assoc. The pic is a Greavette he owned . It had a 318 Poly with 4 bbl and full chrome. Other boats he had had Chrysler Crown 6's . I did a couple of engines for him. One Chrysler crown in particular I found an old Dude at Crane cams who said they still had some masters for hi perf cams for the Chrysler crown and if I sent him a core he would grind me one. I did. That and some careful machine work and prep produced a real nice working boat. Ron sold it but Jimmy Potter of Manotik Boat Works told me it was the nicest working Chrysler Crown he had ever seen. They were very popular engines and many are still running today in what we call Muskoka boats. Yours ,being a sedan, is a real Classic. All the best Don
I love the old wooden boats. Chris Craft and Thompson being my favorites. A long time dream is to have a cabin cruiser (We live 40 miles from lake Michigan) to vacation on/with, instead of buying vacation property. Nice find and congrats on the Chris Craft.
I hate boats, but I love that thing! Good luck with her, and unless it's inappropriate for this forum, post progress pix!
We had cottages at the shore, grew up around boats. Guy who ran a night club /bar had 2 Chris Crafts . I had a56 CC Capri .i tried to restore but had to threw in the towel. After i sold it my father inlaw says he would have done it. He's a pro with wood.
Very nice! If you ever get a chance visit Lake Tahoe, CA for the Concours d'Elagance, you will be amazed at some of the boats and the details. http://www.laketahoeconcours.com/ Google the above and it will bring up a bunch of pix for the show and the past shows. Chris
need a set of scripts for the transom? i have a set of chrome plated brass ones, off my Dad's old money pit. PM me if yer interested.
Thanks I have yet to go pick up the boat so I'm not sure what if anything is missing....ill let you know
Needs a chop! Seriously, a cool boat. Check my profile album 'Friday Art show'- there is a drawing there of my 'Mary- Lou', my brother's barn fresh mahogany '41 Cad powered speedboat.
As they say here in the South, that boat is "pleasing to the eye" (to say the least). Timeless beauty can't be described, it just is what it is. Once you finish it you should tow it with a classic old pick up. How cool would that be. Please keep progress pictures coming.
You'll have to post a picture of the restored boat hooked behind the Suburban - that would be a sweet screensaver.
Beautiful. I lvoe those old boats, but I've got neither the time, the patience, or the pocket fulls of $$$ to be able to own one.
"...1949 through 1954 were varnished. Production totaled 436...." Holy ____. 436!? Wonder how many are still around of this model. Very unique Chris Chraft.
