In my youth, no one aspired to a "patinated" car. If you found a "barn find" car that no one had messed with, you were lucky. But the aim was always to return it back to its glory days. Now, the goal seems to be to keep it as the same POS you found untouched under for 20 yrs under a tarp. Am I missing something?

  4. Patina is Kool. Any body can have a shiny new paint job, but faided and rusty fenders are a statement. No wash, No wax No worry.

I was over it before the chickenshit roadster appeared on the cover of Hot Rod. Nothing more vomit-making than "faux-tina".

Tired of faux patina, real stuff is still ok to an extent. Painted cars, shiny or flat, for me please!

  11. "Patina" is synonomous with "needs paint".

A presentable car with original, faded paint is one thing. A car that looks like shit and claims "It's patina!" is BS.

    Too easy.

Doesn't bother much. Everybody likes different styles. Only one thing gets me about it though...the rust. IMO rust isn't patina...it's just...RUST. And you know...it's gonna keep on rusting...until the poor thing just falls apart.

I'm REALLY tired of those oversized ugly assed wheels with the small sidewall tires everyone in the magazines have . Streetrods , muscle cars, 4x4's ,classic's , they don't look good on ANYTHING !

  16. I'll tell you what I'm tired of, and that's someone that's got some rusty piece of shit that looks like ASS and insists on calling it "patina". Patina is patina, and ass is ass;). This is NOT patina

A car with well done Faux Patina is an artform in my book, the right cars will always stop people in their tracks.

I like originality, and something is only original once, hence "patina" since there's no such thing as a paint job that's perfect after driving the car on and off for 50 years. I hate faux patina since it's not original to the car or it's history. I like seeing some history rather than spraying epoxy over the whole thing (i.e. door lettering, old dealership logos, timing badges, etc.) That being said, if your car is just rusty because you keep in under a sprinkler, spray the fucker. Some cars have "it" some don't. I love a shiny new paint job on a car that should have one. Like any fad, people have taken it too far, and I think we are on the downside of the patina trend, which is good. I see it more than I should, and am sick of people bitching for either side.

It's only original once. Faux patina sucks. But a barn find hot rod that has been covered up for 40 or 50 years is like hitting the lottery it's a peice of history

Patina rods I can dig, they don't have the "Look and enjoy but don't touch my classic car" fuckin' signs hanging on them. Just bugs, some dirt or mud, and gas stains on the carbs.

I'm a firm believer in the "To each his own" program. There's a lot of stuff I don't like, or think looks awful, stupid, gay, or whatever, but who am I? If you like it you should'nt give two shits what I think, just don't jam it down my throat. I don't really care who likes my car, because I LOVE it! And at least those people with cars not as cool as mine are doing something with their cars (even if it sucks) instead of playing video games or looking at internet porn. Just my $.02

Why - yes you are. There's a lot of good people out there that can't afford to put an expensive paint job on their ride right now - especially with the economy. Perhaps their "AIM" is to finish it as you state, but they do what they can afford at the time. That's a piss poor reason to consider somebody's ride a POS.
