Why are you here? He has ask specific questions and "HAMB" guys are answering them. He has been encouraged by people (read that "HAMB" guys) all along the way through this build thread.
okay now thats what I'm talkin' bout' right there! You must have passed it along to him in ur genes or something... That is sick man!
Got PM, that is a damn fair deal... (well after I wittle him down with cash ) My only conundrum is I want to chop this thing... That T body is resto quality man, and I would hate to butcher it up... I am a metal fabricator and I was actually looking forward to working on this body... Let me do this, I will give it the ol' college try and if shit doesn't pan out and if it's still available I get first dibs
Called him and said you can give him a ring 205 853 3022. I know he wouldn't care if you chop it. He has owned just about every hot rod in the Birmingham area except my 36 Chevy. Some have been chopped......his current ride is an awsome 35 Chevy.
I lived in Brum for many years - The Pallisades is still there; the entry point to the city when you arrive by rail. It's no longer the premier shopping area as the centre of Birmingham has been changed beyond recognition. They're going to spend £500m on the Pallisades this year though. Hey - let me know if you ever get to the UK and you're more than welcome to work on my Modified ;-)
Waiting on a sale of a bike to free up some cash, then its full speed ahead! Also waiting on my dealer license from speedway to save deniro Sure would love too! Have not been back to England in 22 years... I really miss her... My sister went back recently and said it looked very small compared to how she remembered it (I guess the states will do that to ya ) That's what I'm talkin' about batman!!!! Don't worry bro its about to pick up again soon... I get a lot of that... Maybe I need to shoot my web designer... Hold on a minute thats me I'm too young to die! I want my mommy! ps How would u improve it if it were u? Thanks dude
OK.... Good news and bad... Good: Found an excellent machine shop called Brangers Racing, right down the road from me!!!! Wohoo! They build race engines and supply them to Japan and other places. The Owner was really cool and is the lead mechanic/builder so that's a plus for me. They have a ultrasonic blaster thingy magingy to clean the water jackets They are going to tank, and flux everything and then I go from there... They really didn't mind me bringing in my own parts "read discounted speedway parts" Bad News: They build race engines and supply them to Japan and other places... An older guy there "worked on a flatty once" I felt like I knew more than them when it came to this engine/parts (I have read 6 books various website logs/entries and have built a few engines before: BUT I AM IN NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM STATING I AM AN EXPERT ON THE FLATTY AS SIMPLE AS IT IS, or may my F600 '53 8BA block be struck by lightning from the HAMB Gods and be cracked! (well potentially more than it might be currently... lol) I got my list guys! So what to do what to do? List: Offy Heads Max 100 Isky Cam with Aluminum flywheel (offy) Re-use con rods, wrist pins Re-use crank, grind balance and flux re-use mains Replace Stock pistons New adjustable isky lifters Reds Springs/replacement valves Replace all Hardware New water pumps create oiling line for better cooling where 10" fuel pump lifter is I am going to go with these guys for the tanking, stripping, fluxing. If thats all good initial decking, boring if needed. That's all for now... What u guys think?
First, a machine shop may not know flatheads, but they should understand line boring, honing, decking, etc. Oh, make sure the block IS LINE BORED! Flatheads are notorious for NOT being true! Earlier you asked about running a line between the radiator hoses... I think. I've seen this done, but I don't see any benefit as pressurized coolant is going to find its way back to the top tank no matter what. Adding another path is just adding more work and more unnecessary stuff to the build. I would, however, run two thermostats, one on each head so you can see what the engine is doing. Earlier I mentioned pressurized oiling. I can't remember the specifics of this and I don't want to tell you wrong, so ask the guys at H&H, they'll steer you in the right direction. Basically there's two places on the back of the block where you drill and tap, one is pressurized and the other is your return. If you hook it up wrong it'll do damage, so get the scoop from the guys who know their shit... not me! I'll have to call them once I'm ready to put the 8BA back in the shoebox! Keep up the great work bro!
Go to www.flatheads-forever.com or call (818) 248-2371 and ask for Mike Herman. Tell him Eric in Utah sent you.
Anyone tried this for a PCV valve setup? Or do u have to braze the vent opening closed and braze another fitting like others have done... This is from speedway...
Those are rocker cover breather/PCV setups.* Flatty ones usually go in where the road draft tube goes, You still need the beather at the back for air to get in. Do a search for flaythead PCV's, there 's been more than one discussion. Actually PCV's in general are a perpetual subject! *and 'billet'
Ok, so I can't just cap my RDT with this gadget and run my tubing to each side of the intake to use all PCV gasses?
I agree with daddio211 right now you basically have a rolling wrecking yard, for safety's sake of your family and everyone on the road you need to disassemble the entire car and rebuild the whole foundation from the ground up. If you do not have the experience or know how you've got plenty of advice right here on this web site from a lot of talented individuals. I'm not being critical of your project because I have bought a lot of death traps for the parts and reworked them into nice safe rides. It appears you have the all parts (lose the grill) they just need to be installed and attached correctly. Just my 2 cents worth.
Boxing up to take to the machine shop... Need to fabricate the active oiling system prior to cleaning though...
