If you guys don't like what they are saying just mute it and put on some music and just watch the cars.

Sorry, I guess that I missed the nice moment, must have been a heck of story for $64k

  3. Yeah, everyone's a critic;) I just want someone to tell me why I'm building a roadster when I could have bought that already done:eek:

continue with the bashing if you must.

tell me how you can get 40 hours of coverage, including maybe 15 hours of commercials, with awesome cars and some very informative commentary...and not get at least some enjoyment out of it?

who cares how it has impacted the hobby? The guys that use B-J as a means of pricing their cars aren't in touch anyway. What do you want to bet they are just car flippers trying to hook a sucker?

I have the luxury of TIVO, so commercials and non-interesting cars/bikes/horse drawn wagons don't bother me a bit.

Mike Joy misses a few points, but he certainly is not a dolt. At least he is willing to acknowledge his mistakes. Steve Magnante is always a pleasure to learn from. I am a student of the hobby, yet he always provides me with a couple of obscure facts.

go ahead and bash all you want. I just don't get it. If you don't like it, simply change the channel. Perhaps you could start a thread and tell us how on topic the last episode of American Idol was.

I have noticed that nicely restore old 50's style trucks are selling well. Even better than the red blown Chevy. Ford, Chevy, Dodge doesn't matter when they are pulling 40g's. Just found this interesting that both of these sold for $38,500..and the blown 51 came with a matching trailer.

  7. Now I am hearing that "Cute" sells, oddball VW's and such. Not to knock any car as they all add to the show but I could do without the commercials, Like I want to see Foose polishing a brand new wheel:eek: along with 10 more commercials between cars. They seem to go to commercial when the cars I really want to see are up next. It beats American Idol though, good thing there are other TV's in the house.

Exactly, You could never duplicate that car for $17,000 unless you had all of the components laying around and you were one hell of a fabricator. I've lusted over that car numerous times here on the HAMB and I'm stunned it went so cheap.

The father of the 2 girls that were selling it passed suddenly, and crying the whole time cause the truck meant the world to him. One of the girls even had it tattoed on her arm.. That's all I caught of the back story, but the guy that bought it was huggin them after the sale.....it was a nice moment....

YOU'RE building YOUR roadster cuz that's what YOU want to do.;)
IF you attended BJ and thought the modified was a deal at $17,000 and had that to spend on a car you could have bid on it.

Folks talk about other people thinking their cars are worth so much more because of BJ but in reality there are a TON of deals on cars there. Most of us on here know that alot of those cars can't be built for what they have just sold for AND we all know that the number matching muscle cars usually go for top dollar on BJ. Only the uneducated thinks their shitbox is worth major money.

Your right that is a nice story. I'm happy for the girls and hopefully the money will help them out. It is still a lot of money.

  13. I've always liked watching the weekday auctions....those are the cars that are actually attainable. Still cool to see the high dollar cars, but it's fun to see some great deals too.

  14. Wow 17K, I saw it for sale awhile ago for something like 25K. That's a deal!

  15. Thanks for the reminder:D. I am just learning here, but even so, I have no illusions that my pieced together hotrod will be worth big bucks. It would just be nice to drive it!

50Fraud - They replay the auctions ALL THE TIME.
I'll check the TIVO tonight to see when they may be re-running it.

I bought it from Larry Mitchell, who built it, with less than 300 miles on it in '05. After advertising it for sale for 3 years I sold it to Scotty Something last October, and I presume he's the one who consigned it to B-J. So the new owner will be the fourth since it was built.

This is the 1st time in a few years I've been home and could watch it.
I would say of all the restored cars I've been watching sell; the owners are pretty much giving them away and getting compensted for the restoration costs.
The T @17K was sweet BUT, it cost the buyer more to get it out of there.
10% Buyer's premium. Clerical fees and if you are not a dealer and don't have it transported out of state by an ICC carier you are liable for AZ. sales tax.
The T just went up to over 20K.
That being said,I go to a lot of auctions. If you are disciplined and do your homework, you can get good deals.
All of these are no reserve sales. You take your chances.

I can't do that and only have time to catch glimpses of it. When so much of the auction time is lost to commercials, it seems like I am always missing what are to me the most interesting cars. Other SPEED shows seem to have a standard number of commercials. Not sure why the percentage has to be so high on the auctions. I would actually prefer to do a pay-per-view for a small fee and get to see the whole thing (or as much as I wanted to watch) uninterrupted. The director's choices of which cars should appear on TV are rarely the same choices I would make.

I don't mind the commentary too much. Some of it is lame and some of it is informative. No one is gonna know everything about every type of car.
