THANKS, FloydJer! 1928; WHAT A PHOTO! Is Baker still operating today? If so, I wonder if any of those cars still survive somewhere on the property.

Jim (?) Yes, Baker is still in business and at the same location. I suspect all those cars went to the WW2 scrap drive.

Yeah, man. I kinda figured that, natch. But ya always hope. LOL

There are some keen scrap-drive pix on this thread, though. And at least, the old iron soldiers went to make M-1 Garands, Liberty ships and TANKS to kick the asses of Tojo, Mussolini and Hitler, right?

Snapshot of a rumbleseat roadster, apparently in the middle of nowhere. Any HAMBer who'd like the original photo to hang on the wall or decorate the garage, this photo is for sale on eBay if you just search "old car photo."

RoyalShifter's thread is always a treasure. Visiting there every
month or two is, to me, almost as much virtual fun as roaming
through a real junkyard full of true vintage tin! If you haven't
visited that thread, you won't be wasting your time! Called
"Sitting and Rotting ... picture thread." Occasionally, I have
to cite a really classic photo or two. Here's a dynamite one,
taken "somewhere in New Mexico" by Virginian JalopyShots."

Looking at this, you can almost FEEL the sun's radiance and
hear the silence like you hear only in junkyards and cemeteries
-- broken only by the sound of an occasional bee or other winged
    insect.

May not be exactly HAMB friendly, but I'd give my left 'nad
for this 'Cuda! Posted by Texas newbie Tx51Chevy. From
    the bumper, I'm thinking this is a '72 (?).

Those grand but dusty Packards seem out of place, just sitting, waiting, eh? Speaking of going to waste, I like the photo below because it shows what was still available in a lot of yards in 1972 when this was taken.

Ha Ha , these two pictures were taken by a friend of mine in the early spring of 2009 on one of our Junk yard crawls in southern illinois . I remember standing down one road when the dog fight broke down so i called my buddy who had never been to a yard , I said " stay clear of the dogs they are really going at it " to which he replied " I know , im standing here taking pictures " ha ha ha . He isnt much of a car guy but a great photographer.

The yard by the way is Stutsmans in Casey IL . I go down there once or twice a year , it is full of old iron and they WONT crush any of it , you can walk around all you want and buy whatever you feel like . Prices are right to , I pulled all the windshield stainless for my 55 chevy on that trip and it cost me 35 bucks.

In what seems like HUNDREDS of junkyard visits, I never ONCE had an owner say, "Now watch out for Chopper!"

No! You find the dogs for yourself! LOL. Twice, I was scoping V.T. in yards. I mean, when you're visually scanning as you're walking, you're thinking about finding something cool, right? Who remembers to keep an eye out for dogs?? I pay way more attention to bees, wasps, thorns, briars, thistles and snakes, don't you?

Anyway, both times, I just caught site of the dogs LUNGING out from under fenders where they'd dug a cool spot to keep out of the sun. Lucky for me, just as I felt their breath and heard their jaws snap shut behind my back (as I made a shit-yer-pants retreat), the chain jerked taut, just saving my bacon. Then, maybe, on your way out the main gate, you finally notice a hand-lettered sign: BEWARE OF DOG. Sheesh!

Anyway, having been nailed good by a "Lassie" dog back when I was about 8 or 9 and out riding my bike, I was glad the REAL jaws in the junkyards didn't connect with my hindquarters!!! Whew!

No problem, man. YOUR English is better than a lot of people I know.

When you FIRST log onto the HAMB, very first page, there will be a block (prompt) that says something to the effect of NEW TO THE HAMB? INTRODUCE YOURSELF HERE. Just click that and write a brief description of yourself and your interest in cars and trucks, 1965 and earlier.

Work through it step by step, and don't make rocket science out of it. You'll enjoy the H.A.M.B.!

You've got it done, my friend. It's called "About Me," and you've already done that personal profile and description of your own cars and interests. Great. Welcome to the HAMB!

Don't overlook this thread by TimG of Stamford, England. Wild place,
apparently owned by quite a creative free-thinker! Neatly kept, all things
considered. Sort of museum, art park and bone yard, all rolled into one!
He says it's near or in Loddes, France, and is owned by a German couple.
The lady operates a dance studio, likes photography and, as I understand,
refers to their place as a boutique. I'll have to look that up! LOL. Tim's
thread is just entitled, Interesting old car yard i visited in France...
and has over a HUNDRED photos of old French, European and American
cars, trucks and vans in a Facebook album. Well worth a look!
