This is a photo from the 1972 Budweiser advertising campaign.
My first job was at MPO Studios in Hollywood and we had the Budweiser contact along with Proctor & Gamble to make their ads and TV commercials.
I started in 1973, after the ads were made, but the props, and film and other promo goodies were stacked in the "prop room".
In 1972 all the Bud ads had a theme of some happy, exciting activity and the Budweiser logo was large and woven into the main theme...like the race car and parachute, above.
There was the swimming pool that had it's entire concrete bottom hand painted with the logo, the Bud canoes, the Model A Ford Bud fabric folding top, the Bud pool table, and on and on....they spent huge dollars having the logo crafted into unusual things.
This is when Ed McMahon was their TV spokesperson.
You may remember Ed's voice saying at the end of the commercials..."when you say BUD, you've said it all....."
I still have one of the Budweiser beep pitchers that was used in the Bud bowling team ad.....I gave a friend one of the bowling shirts that the cast wore..."The Alley Cats", bright gold, with "Ed" sewn on the front.
I have some of the 16mm films around here somewhere.
I got the films and the beer pitcher because my boss came up to me and said..."Get some dumpsters here and throw all this Budweiser shit out, we need the room!"
So...to the dump it all went...except for the bowling shirt, some film and the pitcher...
Now, there's some useless information for you!

Keep it at about mid '60s

And we'll let some later stuff slide, if its really cool.

( Most Vega's, Pinto's, MII's, etc, are just not that cool...)

I would think that anything from the front engine dragster era would be a good fit for the HAMB and that ended in 1970/1. I presume that you took out Plum's early pro stock stuff and I don't think that many here thought that was out of place either.

I am sure being a moderator of these threads can be a pain, but let's look at the history of this thread. Now almost 6 year old, over 1000 pages and loved by thousands, let's not let it end.Going back to page 1 there are many cars not mid 60's,probably 80% of this thread would violate that rule.I do not think that rule on a 6 year old thread is realistic anymore. The one thing that should quit is cropping the photographers name out.Give credit when known. No one what's to see this thread end, let's all use common sense and be fair.

Not just talking P/S but I have other stuff that got me worried. I have a bunch of F/C and my take on that is anything over 77 would be alright. After 77 when Jungle and Dodger Glenn got killed I didn't really careed much for drag racing. Besides I didn't care for the Arrows, Omin & cars like that.

I got a bunch of other stuff too which I don't think would be bad, Gassers, Altereds, & Dragsters, & otheres too.

I think rear engine cars are ok but with the short wings. Not the ones that reach for the sky and the short wheelbase cars.

Just my opinion. Itys not my site so I can't really make a call.

Whatever I still love the site & without a doubt its the best out here.

I agree with dragway, Give credit to those who have taken these pictures where possible. Many of these people took these for a living maybe still do so be fair. Some day these people may just not post these anymore then is will be just a passing memory.:(

Those of us who were around at the beginning really appreciate seeing what was developed and run all over the country and even out of the country. Anybody remember Allard in England???

Wow let the rule relax to 77. This is thread is just awesome don't stop it just adjust it. I was a child of the seventy's and there was alot of awsome stuff that was a big part of the history.

  28. Seems like so called "nostalgia" ( I hate that term), should be OK. Drag racing hasn't really changed as much as a lot of you would think. It's still point A to B, just a lot faster and safer. That IS the whole point after all. I think it's pathetic that so many people just can't grasp the fact that times change, alway have, and no matter how hard you wish, the 60's are gone. Sometimes I think racers and hot rodders are the biggest gripers in the world.

  29. Quite possibly the finest drag photo ever. That's saying a hell of a lot, considering all the fantastic shots posted here. Love the "Warlock" AA/FA shot as well, and we're all familiar with the "Wild Willie going sideways" shot. But this one, with the juxtoposition of the car,the sign, the tree and the stands just effin' HITS IT!!!

...Still get a woodie over any Awful-Awful shots...

The problem is that many people who are posting on this board now days just dont get it! This IS NOT just another car talk message board! Keep it mid 1960's and earlier, just because someone thinks a pro stock pinto/nova/gremlin/yugo is cool does not mean it needs posted in this thread or anywhere else on this TRADITIONAL board.
