Great find. Good luck with the project either way, I would love to see the under hood
    in original condition.
If you decide to go Gasser with it I would love a chance at the Engine and drive train.

Looks like you parked it in front of your motel room overnight. Great find.

  9. Great score! Are you sure this is the one you want to cut up, it looks so complete.

How often do you see a stocker ?? Million gasser types

  11. Great find! What is amazing to me is that there were never a large number of these cars in production, and coupes were as best I can research, only 20-25 percent of total production. Yet they are still being found. I have had 6 coupes in my life time, including my '39 which I have had on the road since '96. My 1st one was in 1960, and I drove it for 2 years as a stocker in the Duluth Minnesota area (a 40' coupe). The rest were cars I bought and sold in the '80's when they were cheap...by today's standards. Walked by a lot of them in the 4-8K range that I thought were way over priced...not very smart on my part. The price started to sky rocket in the late 80's! Sold an original '39 coupe (w/41 front clip) 3 years ago to a friend locally in the Twin Cities area! Not in the best of shape, but a complete car. I have always been looking, and am still looking, although not as actively, but they have never been easy to find. There are 2 stockers here in the Twin City area (a 40 & 41). The '41 is a high end, well preserved original along the lines of Ron Ladley's coupe. The '40 can be seen on the cover of Gasser Wars magazine (issue #63), and he hasn't done a thing to it, except drive it! The owner says he is having great fun with it as a stocker. There are 2 more around the state that I have pictures of, and have not turned up anywhere, but I have lost track of where they are today! If you have another one, and keep this one as a stocker you will have fun with it! Congrats!!!

Build a tail dragger out of it:D How many have you seen built into a custom?

If I had it it would would be a gasser...... Nice stock original or not. If you don't chop up the body and save the original frame who cares?

  19. My 2 cents, id do it stock and use it as a tow car for your gasser.
Maybe paint it like the gasser, but in the style of a tow car when the gasser raced?

Yep. I think it was a Zombie rendering I saw of a custom Willys coupe, once. Total curveball, but the car lends itself very well to that treatment.

If you have to gasser it which these cars were born for try not to cut it up and save as much original sheetmetal as ya can.

  22. I love the parking spot at the motel, I sure understand, when we have all these stolen cars on almost a daily basis reported on here. Very exciting find, congrats on the car and good luck with whatever you decide to do. ~sololobo~

    PLEASE no sbc.....Maybe a BOP motor or a Y Block ??

  24. So they were "stock" at one time?????

If you want a gasser... buy a glass body or a metal repro... or a historic built racer!

  25. Take the easy road, use this nice body, and sell me your other body that is rough:D

Nice find. Here's a pic of Ron Ladely's totally stock restored '41 coupe. I would shoot for something like that.

a friend of mine has 6 39-41 willys. he used to have 12 or 13. he has three restored stockers that are gorgeous, one back slightly hot rodded one, one that runs mid nines with a keith black motor and lenco trans, and the other one he has is a brown stocker that has been his daily driver for probably thirty years. he drives it in the snow and everything. thats, just the stuff i've seen. oh yeah, he has nos fenders and hoods hanging up in the back of his shop. wont sell any of em. he had a 40 that was faided yellow, with a v8 in it, and the nose up a bit that he siad he wouldn't sell after i asked him, them one day he sold it. and cheap! hes got that old farmer mentality- gotta catch him on JUST the right day and time. i like a clean stocker. maybe with a slight power up grade though. nice find!
