Your little Glen L turned out fantastic. John Hacker, he's long been my favorite designer from that era. He was among many other things, a boy hood friend of Henry Ford. His stuff's gorgeous. Are you building this step hydro? Early Hacker step. John and Bertha Hacker late in life.
This pic from above is owned by a friend of mine, a guy I use to work with. He's running a reverse cam set up in that blown Nailhead. Nice old Stevens.
Aw crap... Now I want a cool old boat more than ever! Do you know how impractical that is in Phoenix?! I mean, sure, the whole valley is surrounded by man made lakes and such, but...
If I had to guess I'd say it was a Marine Miller but I don't know what year Fred Offenhauser took over. Beautiful boat.
Vintage limited hydros......kind of a run whatcha brung. Classes were designated by cubic inches, but engines choices ran the gamut. Here are just a few examples...... Clay Smith tuning one of his flatheads.... Keith Black and the Royal Canadiana....(was a badass boat.) V8 60's were very popular early on..... Don Wilson's 7 liter Maserati...... Crosley..... Ford Falcon..... ....and the SBC.
Thanks for posting the pictures. I knew Rowdy and Mr. Grant in the late 60's and the early 80's. It was fun looking at them.
If this thread has given anyone the bug to own a Flathead powered woody from the '50z I have this one that needs a resto! Can PM for details!
Here's a few pictures I took at the Kirkland Concours de Elegance. Every year they have wooden boats featured. For 2009, they highlighted hydroplanes. Enjoy.
