Good idea. I usually tap the bushing and then use a bolt screwed into the bushing to push it out.

Use of paper is brilliant...grease takes more time to clean up than it takes to do the job.
Go have a cup of coffee while the paper dries, and sweep it up.
Peanut ****er would at first seem as messy as grease...but think, if you have a dog, just get out of the way and it will all be spotless in 30 seconds!

    Great info....
It always amazes me that with all our modern tools, the simple old physics using very basic everyday material that is readily available works just as well...
    Thanks for posting !!!

Always used grease too. It works, but even a small gap can send grease everywhere. I'll try the wet paper next time! Never too old to learn a new trick!

Good for you, but how do you remove the pilot bushings? :D

  12. Me too.

I've never thought of using news paper.

Don't use paper towel... I shoved an entire roll of paper towel into a very little hole to get a pilot bearing out. To get the bushing it was in out I used news paper and it was a lot faster. I turned down the head of a bolt on a lathe to do mine, worked great and its a reason to buy a lathe
