One of the magazine articles or the book did mention that H & M did make a rear sump oil pan for the Mustangs because that was where the sump should be! Sylvanus

    Thanks Junky!

Those are the best photos yet. The detail is great. I can even tell that the outboard of the front brackets was thicker than the inboard to manage the spring twist. Since it says it was sold as a DIY kit, wouldn't it be great if H-M still had one gathering dust back in the warehouse somewhere (fat chance).

I'm going to try to find an old PRI attendee list & make a few Aussie contacts. (Maybe I can make my next million importing 45 year old steering boxes)

Im Looking at that pan, heres a blown up of Falcon red's pic. And then this other. They have the hole going through the pan for steering which I have heard of before.I think the 422 guys are doing this in the wagon. However this steering looks in front and that centerlink definitly looks custom made. Good stuff.

These shots are from the streached stang.Look how the had to turn the filter also. All i know is I wished all four of my header tubes could go down behind the arms

It would be nice to find one of those droped center links.

One of my first fab projects in auto shop was a dropped link & deep pan for a V8 64 Chevy II. Its simple. Just make a jig to hold the outer ends & tie rod holes, cut out the center, bend the drop bar, then weld it back together. Seemed like a real accomplishment to a gearhead high school kid back in 64.

The engine in the Mustang photos is a lot further back than in the Falcon. Notice where the oil filter adaptor and the suspension is in relation to normal. If the engine had been in the stock location and the steering had been behind the engine mounts the hole would be in the correct location. This looks like a pan used on the early Mustang FX cars without the streached nose, or at least that might be a good guess.

Notice the minimum of bracing in the front end. Those upper a-frame mounts don't look to strong. I bet that sucker was a bear to drive. Bonner was like a fellow said about Cale Yarborough, "If they did to him what they do to bulls they would have to use a chain saw". That was my favorite car and driver back then. I followed them all over the place by reading Drag News. I have had three Falcons and three Comets since then.

Even on some of the other pictures it looks like the steering box and all the front suspension parts are moved forward on the frame. The side shot of the Cammer really shows that well. It appears the original rear steering box hole is a couple inches behind the box.

The picture several pages back of Balkan's Falcon at San Cobble is the second San Cobble track which became Van Isle Dragways soon after. I wish i'd been there. I wasn't tall enough to see over the hood at that time but might have seen the Cammer through the fenderwell. :)

Not a Falcon, but I remember seeing Dyno Don's '65 Comet at Yellow River Drag Strip near Atlanta, GA with the front cover off his cammer, that was a lot of timing chain.

From the Drag Cars in Motion thread:

I have some photos of the car with this bumper and with a fiberglass Falcon bumper also but my photobucket account is full so I can't load them. Guess it is time to go to the PRO account. Any one know a better way??
