Pulled the rad. and its fubar'ed Anyone know what rad fits these from a junkyard or do they sell new ones? Also would 1953-55 Ford truck front springs fit the 57-60's?
Check out U.S. Radiator, usradiator.com. They have direct replacements. They built one for me for the 429 swap into my '56 F-100 and it worked great. Real good product. As beat up as your top tank is even if you re-cored it the tank would still look beat up. A new radiator with copper tanks can be shined up real nice. This shot shows mine, I just shined it and clearcoated. [/IMG]
There are many options. You can mail order one from places like LMC truck. You might want to see if a radiator shop can rebuild it. Buying used just doesn't make sense unless it is local.
6-cylinder radiators and Y-block radiators have the bottom outlet on opposite sides. I needed to change my rad when I swapped my '60 from a 223 to a 292.
Thanks, I did not know that. Also i just removed the entire front suspension if you are in need of leafs. Shipping might be expensive though.
See thats why I asked if the 53-55 front springs are the same as 57-60's. I have access to a set off a 55 Ford. Shipping will kill me if I tried buying a set online.
Is it just the main leaf thats broken? The reason I ask is if there is a suspension/spring shop in your area you may be able to get just the leaf you need. BTW the 57-60 springs are different from the 53-56 springs.
They are all snapped I have a pic on here of the broken leaf spring. And Thanks for the info about the early springs being different..sigh oh well guess I'll try and snag a set on here hopefully cheap as shipping's gonna murder my ass.
Are you going to lower the truck? If so, maybe someone on here has a line in reversed eye springs. I put a pair on my '56 F100 and they dropped the front end about three inches.
Yeah I'll most likely lower it. I wanted to do the gasser route but don't have a ballsy enough motor..or funds for that matter lol
Actually you could go that route with the 292. A stock rebuild with a lumpy cam & 3 deuces would be perfect for that. I had a .060 over 292 in my '56 for a few years before it got the 429. The Y-block pulled good and sounded great with headers. I even beat a Ford Lightning with it. There are people on the HAMB who know those motors pretty well, and if you check out y-blocksforever.com they have some good stuff and plenty of information. Egge makes overhaul parts as well. Also, there is a thread on here that shows a conversion to a T-5 5 speed. You could convert it when funds become available. Since the truck already has the straight axle it'd be piece of cake to give it the Gasser look. The Photoshop I did of your truck was done with the Gasser theme in mind.
I'd love to go that route but I am on the suuuper cheap with this as funds won't allow what I'd like so I'm prob gonna put the 292 in mothballs and find a cheap SBF/auto for now and lower it a lil and cruise till fundage allows for the nosebleed stance and a rip snort murder motor under the hood.
Love those p.u's, Javiar's is a nice one to model your build after. That orig Ford red is a hip color to go back to. Good luck with your build, the y-block is way cool. ~sololobo~
i bought new rear springs for my 55 from jcwhitney. cheap and with free shipping if you catch them right. check them out on your fronts. on the rad. you might look at one outa a 73 - 79 ford pu. just by the pics looks simular. or like mentioned before a dodge van
Some new pics of better quality shots of my truck The only bad spot on the floor Took the headlight covers off and there was a mess of vines growing everywhere better side shot
Sweet truck I'd jus throw some wheels and tires at it and take off the rear bumper and drive that bad boy maybe lower I'd to
its a 292 and Its not stuck the trans is stuck in 2nd gear. the truck ran when parked and the hood was always shit and it had an aircleaner on the carb always. How do I get a BW T98 unstuck outta 2nd?
Nice truck, for shipping try greyhound, I shipped some big stuff and the price was decent. For the T98 I redid one in a old Willys Jeep that I blew up the main cluster and 2nd on. That was back in 92 and if I remember right the top cover comes off but yours is a side loader so that may keep you from having to pull it. The first option would be to push in clutch and drop the driveshaft and rock the yoke with a big pair of pliers to get it to move - maybe.
BTW - love those west coast mirrors - they are cool to hang onto while driving guarantees that trucker tan on the left arm
The mirrors are factory I believe they say Ford on them at least anyway. As for the clutch pedal its stuck it won't go in or let out.
When I got my '60, the brake pedal was frozen up solid. It turned out that the piston in the master cylinder was rusted to the casting. If you put a new master & slave cylinder in your clutch, and run a new hydraulic line, you should be able to bleed out the air & then work your clutch.
Removed the"West Coast" mirrors as they were too scratched up and rusty looking Gonna add some custom small mirrors up on the door frame. Removed the rusty broken tailgate
On my '60, I ran a round-style stock mirror ... I loved it, it looked real nice. I had a matching pair, but I ran only the driver's side mirror. From the point of view of the driver's seat, the vent window divider bar blocks the passenger mirror, if you install it.
Not sure, but what about towing/pushing it and popin' the clutch a few times. Gear lube is handy too. Howard
Uniformed ford truck guy here but......did ya have the grill chromed or was that an option? Looks killer!
