Tomorrow morning, I'm on my way to refill the Oxy/Acetylene tanks. They's emptys! Still need to shrink some spots on the doors. I have some dent pullin' to do, too! Yay!!

  3. Shrunk the spots, an all that! Imma sanding fool.. I've been told I'm taking too long, also! Easy for someone to say when they ain't doin' the work.. Wow!

What is the name of that yellowish filler that you are using?

  5. It's called Rage Gold, made by Evercoat.. Sands well, doesn't clog the paper. Worth the extra money, with all the time it saves.

  7. That's actually, the reverberation of both neighbors, telling me to "STFU".. in between my family members telling me, I'm slow.. Sigh! I'm sure everybody around here, jus' loves the sound of my dual action sanders..

Hahaha.. I have to laugh, or esle!

Thank you, I'm really impressed with how it went on your rocker panels.

  9. I noticed your 58 Biscayne, in the photoshop thread. I also have a 58 Biscayne, though mines a 2dr. I like the 58s, a lot! Thanks for the good words!

  10. So I put the sash channel on the bottom of the door glass, this morning. Not something I can do by myself, glad Pops was there to help me!

Then I gathered the other pieces, so I could clean them.

Then I went to go see Jim Sigs 32. Amazing, I must say! When I came back, my tail gate harness had been delivered.

The hole at the arrow, shows where it feeds in.

M&H doesn't reproduce the square-ish rubber grommet( Arrows), that came originally on the harness. I am lucky I saved mine, an it was dumb luck that I did!

  11. So I got into some shit, today!

It's really, asbestos! It's kept wet & sealed in a freezer bag and stored in an old coffee can. Works great at containing heat. I used it to help me, while I gas welded some mig welds that cracked after hammer and dollying. I've been 'Redoing' the drivers qtr for the past two days. Shrank the shit outta a lot of places, an I think it was worth it.

Welded up all the holes in the door. Eight holes were drilled for mirrors.. and now there's none! Yay.. well the drivers doors done, anyway!

    ^^
Welded up the lil cancer hole in the bottom, too!

A lot of SshhHH SshhHH SshhHH SshhHH SshhHH SshhHH left to do, too! Hahaha

SshhHH SshhHH SshhHH SshhHH SshhHH SshhHH
SshhHH SshhHH SshhHH SshhHH SshhHH SshhHH
SshhHH SshhHH SshhHH SshhHH SshhHH SshhHH

That drivers quarter looks so damn clean without the gas door! That is it, mine is going to disappear too.

  13. I removed the electric window regulator motor, yesterday. I'm going to use a gas hydraulic lift, instead. I just need to find a cable actuated latch. That way I can eliminate any chance of Kaboom, when I hit the switch.

    Jay,
Check out older Grand Ams. They used cable latches to open the fuel filler door..Another idea might be to install a power door popper and switch used on customs. That way it would just unlatch it and you can safely open it the rest of the way...........Mike

  15. That is a good idea! Saturday, Imma have to hit the 'yunk yards' and find something that'll work. Even if I have to buy a push/pull cable from 'control cables' to make it work. I can't wait 'til tomorrow.. GNRS, here I come!

  16. Put a little time into the t/gate, today! Lots of hand 'SsshhH-SsshhH'ing but it still needs some more hours to smooth out those low 'spots'! Tomorrow, I have to concentrate on the top area where the top t/gate mldg goes.

Took the doorhandles off today. Now I need a stick to push the latch inside.. 55-57 you can reach it with your finger, cos the doors shallower. More useless shit in my head, I tell ya what! Sigh.. B)

I also blocked the roof a little.. nothing worth pics

Looking good Jay..... Just my opinion, but as opposed to probing for the door actuator with a stick, just install an inside door handle. You'll have a simple, quick easy open....Mike

I am impressed with the work you're doing. Good Job!

  20. You're right, I was being lazy.. didn't wanna go find one. There is plenty around here, but just too damn lazy! Hahaha

I keep telling myself that, but I'm not believing it..(grin) Thanks man!

Aaww shucks.. you're just sayin that! Hahaha Gracias Hombre!

  21. So these pictures show the high spots peaking through.. aint no shame in my game, tho!

Yet the bottom half, not so much.. That's a good thing!

Everything feels smooth, with no 'noticable' high / low spots.. it's amazing what high build primer can do!

Show me what cha working wit'!

hey jay i"ll send u my gate and u can ship me yours since its done already :)lol

  23. I actually have a wgn t/gate, too. (has the opening in the top for the glass) I'll do it and you just send me your core! Hahaha..

My El Camino had the orig t/gate magically stolen or missing. So the previous owner brought a wgn t/gate, to finalize our agreement. Since there was one in the pics I seen online. Then I found a real El Co t/g from model A guy, Ray Morgon.

  24. This just showed up in the mail, today! I seen a thread on this thing.. and had to have one. I need it to straighten my door(s). I cant swing a hammer in there, so this is cool! A hand held, planishing hammer!

Push it in an it starts hammering, isn't that always the goal!

Pics I stole from the other thread..

The things this can do, with different tool head shapes, has me thinking!

  25. An exhaust valve is the perfect fit.. Imma cut it down in the morn, look forward to making 'a-whole-lotta' noise with this thing!

    Damn, you are clever!

  27. cut the valves stems, to fit inside the door.. only the short one works. Not enough room for much else. The valve doesn't want to stay inside the little hammer, either. So it's not easy. I used tape to wedge it in there, but still no!

Then I ground it down, to a rounded surface.

first I had to get rid of the dimple in the center.

Then I filed the door, so I could locate all the high spots.

    then some shrinking and stretching..

I also made one with a carriage bolt.. not any better, either!

  28. More of the same, today. Everything is tight and real solid.. no oil canning anywhere. Filler will be thiner than a dime, so I'm happy. It's been a great experience, working the metal back into shape.

So tomorrows list of things to do:
Use the Blue Lightning- 'rust remover' & 'metal prep' on the door.
Block drivers qtr, as metal prep dries
    Then apply filler, to door
Then a little mo' ssshhh - sshhh!
