Correct, the "Emily" was of no interest to the US Navy after they decided to abandon flying boats...it sits outside in a maritime park in Japan now.

  10. Some great photos Keith. How about some captions - venue and date etc. I recognise John Surtees and Denis Jenkinson here. I have only just found this thread - going through it backwards - looks as if it will take a while!

  11. The expressions and body language of the judges are interesting - looks as if it has been a long day. The blokes look uncomfortable being so close to a girl in her togs and the women look as if they would much rather be somewhere else.

All the girls and women wore poodle skirts in the '50's. In addition, some poodle-type skirts had hot rods on them but I cannot find any photos. I am certain of it, however because I saw them.

Part of my early interest in mechanization.
Yes, the creamsickle but equally the truck.
Same thing with most of the kids.
    Photo likely from the '60's.

Never a dull moment for us kids sitting in front of the TV
when Lloyd Bridges went after the bad guys in "Sea Hunt"
    (1958-1961). Bridges (1913-1998), a real-life Coast
Guardsman during WWII, starred in what was the Number
One show of the '58 season. But it was a time when America
held heroes high. Patriarch of the Bridges acting family,
ever-active Lloyd enjoyed a 62-year career in entertain-
ment! (Trivia: Though he turned down the Captain Kirk
part on TV's "Star Trek," Bridges appeared several times
on the series, "Battlestar Galactica.") The comic cover
    below is THANKS to VintageComics.biz!

Capt. "Big John" McLaughlin who, along with diver Ricou
Browning, worked with Lloyd Bridges on "Sea Hunt." Here,
McLaughlin shows off two Spanish cannon salvaged during
a Caribbean dive, about 1961. His list of film credits is huge,
including underwater doubling for friend Sean Connery in
the Bond films. All the shots of Capt. McLaughlin are THANKS
to an excellent, detailed site maintained by Bob Wirt; go spend
some time! (Big John McLaughlin -- www.bobwirt.com/BigJohn.
    html).

Ricou Browning, along with "Big John" McLaughlin, worked as cast
members with Bridges on Sea Hunt." Here, he's in his underwater
"makeup" for his role in "The Revenge of the Creature," 1955,
THANKS to 123NonStop.com. Browning did ALL the underwater
Creature scenes for ALL THREE Creature films, while other actors
did the land shots. You'll note Browning's dedication to Big John
on the Creature pic. (It is my understanding that Ricou Browning
is alive and well, and his son continues in the family diving tradition!)

Low-res poster for the movie is THANKS to the WikiMedia
Commons project and is shown here to illustrate mention
of Browning's role, under fair-use rationale. (Trivia: Clint
Eastwood had his FIRST movie role, as a lab assistant early
    in the movie!)

Check out the ultra-rare Wayne display case gas pumps. I'd give my left nut to have those...

Shelsley Walsh Hillclimb is the oldest race track in the world. Started in 1903 I think
