Oh, yeah, that's me leaning on the max wedge, my brother Bill with the former 'Arrow, which is hooked to the back of my Mom's '67 440 GTX. That's at our house in Cornwall, N.Y.

John Mulligan, 1968 AHRA World Finals in Tulsa.....pitched both front tires in the lights. He thought the first one flying by
was the blower belt, then the second one flew by....:D (you can see the inner tubes wrapped around the axle.)

Rick f..., You may be right. I started driving funnycar in 72 the year after nHRA dropped the Top Gas dragster. Rear engines became popular, then came a number of cases where the push bar collapsed and the push vehicle ended up on top of the dragster.

NHRA in their wisdom mandated roller starters driven by a sbc or vehicle. A year or 2 later after a number of roller accidents and they came up with the self start since the FC guys were doing so well with them.

I remember most of the dragsters had a 'fat fleet' of guys to push them back after the burn out. It used to be humorous to watch them. The cutie usually walked off the side somewhere directing the driver back while the guys grunted. haha:rolleyes:

The reverser came around 75-76 I think.

Yea your right that was before my time but I admire the men that sat behind the wheels of those monsters. Is that something he did all the time when racing since i noticed another picture lately with him flashing the V for victory. Just looking to be educated. Thanks for the history lesson. Great pictures folks....

Rooman wasn't trying to put you down...The flashing of the "V" for victory was used by a lot of different drivers, some to excite the crowd and some used it as a "in your face" gesture.

  30. Tons of drivers did it. Sign of the times man. It was the 60's after all.
Was also done when you caught the guy in the other lane redlighting. But i digress... Yes that is no burnout, that is a "real" non slipper clutch leave.
