The only cars I ever saw with those were Buicks. They work great but the heater cores cost ^^ore than so^^e guys cars do. As several said, a lot of the older trucks had s^^all squarish heaters that fit pretty well look decent. Or cut down one out of a later ^^odel rig.
I like upgrading the old ones - here's a tech I did on the one in my truck. I can't leave it run - even on low - it burns me out of the cab even when the temps are in the upper '20s! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=345518 Concepts can be applied to any old heater - or anything else for that matter (speaker box, tissue box, etc)

Thanks Ernie- I was thinking about using an electrical unit in my Southwind, but yours gives me new ideas!
Hey Spoons, Which little electric unit have you used. Looking for a little one to put i my Southwind if it will fit. Thanks! Glen
My experience with hot water maade before the mid 50's is that they work great if the outside temperature is above 70.
They do, but the last time I looked for a replacement core for one (the round core) I couldn't find one, or at least one that a normal person could afford!
I've tried several 12V units and haven't found one that does much yet. That's why I went with the hot water unit. I don't know about that...I've come up with some stupid shit plenty of times! Not if you upgrade the heater core which is what I did. It's a tiny unit, yet scorches me out of the cab - I only turn it on for short periods and have to turn it off - even on low.
I've found a few to consider both water and pure electric. Strted giving some thought to installing a power inverter instead. I have a tiny 1000 watt heater in my bathroom that kicks a$$. Cost less than $20 at Wally world With an inverter I could pick up any heater and plug it in, also use it for other things. The investment is reasonable compared to good automotive heaters and it would be more effective than the totally electric ATV type heaters (300 watts). Lots of flexibility as to use, also - computer, camping, fan for hot show days, etc. Anyone have any experience with them?
My buddy just bought one like that locally for his gasser. We plugged it in and tested it, and we could barely discern if it was putting out any warmth! He took it back and got his money back. Totally worthless.
