V8Nutter, here's a brief quote from Wikipedia on the roots :D of Ruston-Bucyrus:

"In 1930 Bucyrus joined with the English firm of Ruston & Hornsby Ltd Lincoln, England, to form the Ruston-Bucyrus Ltd firm in England. Ruston & Hornsby Ltd were the pre-eminent manufactures of Steam excavators at the time, having started in 1874; the merger gave the company access to previously unavailable world markets. Ruston & Hornsby Ltd sold their share in Ruston-Bucyrus in 1985, during a period of recession and consolidation in the Mining industry, as they divested themselves of non-core businesses to survive."

Incidentally, Bucyrus, in business since 1880, is scheduled to be bought out  by Caterpillar in mid-2011.

Since the "Daytona Continental" is going on, how about a shot of the great Dan Gurney and the Lotus 19B Climax that won the first race in 1962.

His engine failed at the end of the race (it was a three-hour race back then) and he used his starter motor to get across the finish line!

Current talking head David Hobbes drove an XKE (which was introduced 50 years ago this March!) in the '62 race.

Richard Macon in a Shelby GT350 in the 1966 race. Chased by Innes Ireland in the 275LM. Note the Barracuda in the background...the Shelby and Ferrari didn't finish, the Plymouth did!

  21. First time I've seen a ragtop version of this car!

  22. Looks like a shot from "Pine Lake" in Wisconsin in the early sixties Theodore Trecker would land his PBY on the lake and dock it in front of his house... the landings were cool to watch but the Take offs usually involved some trees being trimmed.!
