Does anyone know what colors the Curtis midgets were when they were mostly light with the dark scallop? Were they creme/maroon?

    I believe they were!

It may have been Cream and Dark Red and not Maroon, not sure. The Roadster Curtis made out of a KK was red.

    Best Check with Joe,Doug,etc.

I have been known to get it wrong sometimes.

    John Evans,

Thanks for the great photos of Ronnie!

  4. Lumpy95, I can't say that I really blame Ruth for wanting to fire Chuck back then. Maybe her foresight was better than anyone realized at the time because what followed were some of the best ever; Tommy Copp, Dick Atkins, Billy Vukovich and Hank Butcher, to name a few. But not to take anything away from Sim Clark, himself. Sim, I'm sure was just being very diplomatic. Afterall, the man was a prince of a car owner, a true, respected gentleman and one of the most innovative car owners in the history of midget racing.

It was just on Facebook. Loosely .. the 1/4 midget club had something to do with that race & the two kids presenting the trophies to Ronnie & Milt Smith were members of the 1/4 midget club.

Leading the 100 lapper at West Haven with a flat left front tire. Yes it did come off and put an end to his night.

Hi guys, this is Ronnie Evans' grandson checking in.

He passed away before I was walking and talking, so I only know him through pictures. In most of them, he's behind the wheel of a midget, so it's great to see these cars are still being remembered, restored, and enjoyed. [IMG]

Bobby Boone in the #5 , Evans in the #73

Trophy presented by Father Knickerbocker ( Knickerbocker Beer Co.) for his win at Westboro Speedway in 1954. The trophy has a stock car on top. They
sent a midget a few weeks later.

Evans touched wheels with Roger Bailey , spun and collected Bobby Boone at
Eastern States Exposition Track. ( now called the BIG E ) 1954
    Boone sustained severe head injuries.

Looks like it was built from plans first published in Modern Mechanix in the 1930s- the Arlen Special.

Wow! Is that ever cool. Do you know what make of engine it is? Maybe a motorcycle engine - Henderson, Indian?

It is a henderson engine with stamping of indian in the carbs.
Could this possibly be the real one, my brother bought it approx 20 years ago at an auction in the States.
The engine is stamped 27168 .

Wasn't there a very similiar midget that just sold on ebay within the last several months. Seems it had front wheel drive and a Henderson. Was listed by a motorcycle guy out East if I remember correctly.

There were several midgets built after that magazine article came out, or maybe even before, in the same manner. (Sure was nice to have a machine shop on every corner...not to mention junkyards.) I believe Stan Lobitz has a similar one also, if he sees this he'll be able to help. A really nice car....

I sure do see it Hugh. Paxton and I were going to a vintage meet in Ohio when I heard about this car. We took it apart and put it in my winnebago. When I put it back together I took it down to EMMR where it is still on display. It can be seen in EMMR`s web site.

I just found two programs I forgot I had from the Junior Indianapolis National Championship 250 mile Midget race. One from 1961 and one from 1962. There are some really cool pics but I don't want to post doubles or violate any copyrights. Any thoughts?

That sounds like it would have been a helluva race! What did they do about fuel? Green flag pit stops, throw the red? IIRC, when I was a kid the ARDC ran a 76 lapper at Grandview for the bicentennial. I was impressed with that.

For the ARDC fanatics-What colors were the bodies and numbers of Jerry Willet's #31/41 Kurtis cars?
